We took a drive to the Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge this afternoon to take advantage of the beautiful warm spring day. Wildlife was sparse so early in the season but the turtles were taking advantage of this nice sunny day after the long cold winter.

We took a trip to the Crex Meadows State Wildlife Area in mid October hoping to catch some great fall colors. Alas, like the rest of the midwest it was difficult to predict peak fall color this year. We did however get a chance to watch the Blue Heron. We watched and photographed him for about 15 minutes as he caught, killed and carefully prepared this spiny fish before finally swallowing him. It was amazing how second nature it was to eat this fish.

This is another Sandhill Crane image from our recent visit to the Crex Meadows State Wildlife Area.

We just returned from a wonderful trip to the Crex Meadows State Wildlife Area at Grantsburg Wisconsin. There were still a large number of Sandhill Cranes in the area that provided plenty of photo opportunities. This image was taken just after sunrise on a cloudy morning on the Main D**e Road. Some Cranes were leaving and others were flying in.
