Today is D-Day — June 6, 1944. 🎖️

156,000 Allied soldiers crossed the English Channel and stormed the beaches of Normandy. Many came home. Many didn't. All of them left behind photographs.

Those photos are sitting in shoeboxes right now. On old hard drives. In dusty albums no one has opened in years.

This is why I do what I do. Photo organizing isn't just cleaning up clutter — it's preserving proof that someone lived, loved, served, and sacrificed. It's making sure a grandfather's face isn't forgotten the moment the last person who recognized him is gone.

The Greatest Generation didn't often talk about what they endured. Their images tell the stories their words couldn't.

If you have a veteran's photos — a grandfather, great-uncle, neighbor — today is the day to find them. Scan them. Label them. Share them.

Their story deserves to be remembered. I can help make sure it is. 🕊️

This Memorial Day, we honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives serving our country. 🇺🇸

So many families have precious military photos, letters, slides, film reels, and videotapes tucked away in boxes. Memories that tell the story of sacrifice, courage, and love.

At Preserving Memories, LLC, it’s truly an honor to help families preserve these irreplaceable pieces of history before time and deterioration take them away.

Because preserving memories is about more than photos and videos… it’s about protecting legacies and stories for future generations.

This Memorial Day, we remember those who never came home, and we help ensure their stories never fade. ❤️

Downsizing Parents

One of the hardest parts of helping aging parents downsize isn’t the furniture.

It’s the memories.

The boxes of loose photos.
The dusty VHS tapes.
The slides nobody has looked at in decades.
The albums sitting in basements and attics slowly deteriorating.

Adult children are often overwhelmed because they suddenly realize they’ve become responsible for an entire family history.

And here’s the reality:
Most videotapes that come through my studio already show signs of deterioration.

Static.
Color shifting.
Audio issues.
Dropouts.
Mold.
Warping.

These tapes were never meant to last forever.

The same goes for photographs exposed to humidity, heat, flooding, smoke, and improper storage.

Recently, House Beautiful published an article about the growing issue of adult children dealing with decades of accumulated “boomer junk” while helping parents downsize — including mountains of family photos and sentimental items.

Digitizing isn’t just about decluttering.
It’s about preserving your family history before time makes that decision.

I have had several clients complain about making the mistake of mailing their previous memories away, or not knowing that local companies would take their items and ship them away- to never see them again... But wait, there's more..

When people send their family photos, videotapes, film reels, slides, and negatives to large mail-in companies like Legacybox or iMemories, most worry about one thing:“What if the package gets lost?”And honestly, that concern is valid.Packages are misrouted, delayed, damaged, and occasionally di...

Every time I see another story about a family losing their home to a fire, tornado, or natural disaster, I think about the one thing insurance can never truly replace:

The memories. 📸
The wedding photos.
The videos of grandparents who are gone.
The baby pictures.
The home movies nobody has watched in 30 years.

Families often say, “I thought I had more time.”

Recent wildfires and house fires across the country have left countless families grieving not only their homes — but the irreplaceable photos and videos that told their story.

That’s why digitizing matters NOW, not “someday.”

Once old videotapes melt, photos burn, slides get water damage, or film deteriorates from heat and humidity, sometimes there is no recovery possible.

At Preserving Memories, LLC, everything is digitized locally and handled with care because these aren’t just media items,
they’re pieces of a family’s life.

If your memories only exist in boxes, albums, VHS tapes, film reels, or old drives, don’t wait for an emergency to wish they had been protected.

Digital files and crowd sourcing make recovering photos lost to Los Angeles-area fires a little bit easier.

I’m incredibly honored to have been nominated by my peers for the Rising Tide Award through The Photo Managers.

This isn’t an award I was ever seeking, because I am just one of hundreds of other Photo managers that help each other every single day. It’s just a reflection of what this community is all about. The idea behind it, created by our founder Cathi Nelson, is simple: “a rising tide lifts all boats”

And that’s exactly what this group does.

When I first started out, I truly had no idea what I was doing. It was the members of this community who answered my questions, shared their knowledge, and helped guide me along the way.

Now, heading into my ninth year in business, I find myself in a position where I can do the same—and I genuinely love being able to support others when they need it.

To be recognized by peers in this industry—people who understand the level of care and responsibility that goes into preserving someone’s memories—means more than any award ever could.

To whoever nominated me… thank you from the bottom of my heart. It was truly unexpected, and it means more than you know. 💙

And to my clients who trust me with your photos, films, and family history—this is why I do what I do.
