Have you ever had to fly a drone within a thousand feet of a heavy lift helicopter operation? That’s exactly what we were hired to do, and it’s not for the faint of heart!

But we pulled it off, we coordinated with the pilot, followed all rules & regulations, and completed a safe operation - documenting and filming the lift without incident!

We have a one-of-a-kind Project in the works!

Vertical View just submitted the application for permit to create what could become the highest resolution interactive digital model ever produced of an iconic Kentucky historical site. If approved, this project is going to be something special. Stay tuned.

For this project, we flew an oblique mapping mission. This method allows us to angle the drone sensors underneath heavy tree canopy and gather data in those hard-to-reach areas.

We processed the imagery into a high-density, high-resolution 3D point cloud, then extracted site features, linework, planimetrics, and other information directly from the dataset.

Screenshot 1 shows the processed point cloud alongside the extracted features and linework being generated from the model.
Screenshot 2 shows the automated flight planning and capture path. Total flight time: 11 minutes.

We were on site for roughly 30–40 minutes total and captured enough data to digitally recreate existing site conditions from the air.

That translates to dollars saved, fewer return trips, improved visibility, and less hassle for the surveyor and their operation - starting the project with a strong, data-rich basemap instead of a blank slate.
