Me + my Friday hair are here to tell you that my sign-up sheet has been posted to my bio. Boom!

I’m case you’re new here or just catching up, I’m working on a project that focuses on women living a child-free life. (Pause for gasps)

If you are this person or know someone who is, and would like to be a part please sign up for an interview.

Have questions? Take a look at my Child-Free highlight or DM me!

Looking forward to getting started and sharing all the wonderful ways you beautiful women are living your lives.

I am answering questions about my current project in my stories.

If you have questions leave it in the ??? box or in the comments below.

I do get a little heated when answering the question about the financial ramifications of having children.

Because yes, it should be thought about.

Can I afford to:
A. Give birth at a hospital (if you choose to)
B. Feed a baby (or babies) and keep it alive and clean and healthy
C. A child’s health insurance.
D. Insert any other need a child has that costs money here.
E. Also keep a house over our head, afford a car, food for the adults, or anything else.

Oof 😅 yes, of course I’ve thought about the financial ramifications of having a child.

I’m working on a personal project that focuses on women who are choosing, or have chosen, not to be mothers.

This concept is not rooted in disliking children, or disliking men, or shaming women who do want to be mothers.

It is rooted, instead, in the discovery and joy of a path different from the one commonly expected of us as women. In my experience, specifically as a woman in the South.

I want to know how you made this decision, what brought you to this place? Do you have fears? What are we contributing to society if not human life?

Are we being selfish? (In my opinion, no, but also, even if we are it’s totally okay Pope Francis.🙄)

I will be posting a jot form by the end of the week for anyone who wants to get involved and share their story.

Eek! I can’t wait!! 🤗🤗🤗

It's time.

I've been putting this off for weeks.

It’s been a mix of not knowing where to start, coming to terms with what it means to share this, + all the feelings in between.

As of October 1st 2021, Leanne Haskins Photography will no longer be taking on new clients. It will mark the beginning of transitioning out of family portraiture + into different subjects + forms of storytelling.

It's time I listen to that voice I've been ignoring. That quiet, gentle nudge to listen. To trust. To move forward. To grow. And isn’t that always found in change?

Over the past couple of years I have found myself in a place that no longer serves me + in turn no longer serves my incredible families. Not whole heartedly + not the way my families deserve.

Only this week, as the emails have gone out + I prepare social media posts for this announcement, have I felt the bittersweet sting in my heart.

Endings bring on all the feelings + while I am feeling a little sad, I'm delighted + anxious to begin this new chapter.

This will leave me the space + time to finally dive into the work that has fueled me over the past few months. Two separate photo + video projects focused on my family + women who have chosen not to be mothers.

I'm not sure where these projects will live so feel free to continue following me here or on my personal account .haskins.gilbert

Over the next month I will be sharing reels of photos from some of my favorite sessions over the past 6.5 years. A tribute, if you will, to the families who've entrusted me with documenting these big new chapters + every day life of their families.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your love + support over the years. It has truly been one of the greatest pleasures in life to be a small part of your lives. 💛💛💛

Oh, hey! God, it's been a hot minute. 🔥 Speaking of fire emojis, August in the South. Meh.

I've been traveling, working with the hubs, cuddling the kitties, working in the yard, reading (do I sound old?). Just doing what I want really for a few weeks.

I've also been working on authenticity. Being and sharing my true self. Which is something I thought I was already doing.

But I wasn't. Not entirely. And not intentionally.

When you're the face of a small, creative business, YOU ARE THE BUSINESS. Not only are you selling your art but you're selling yourself.

And maybe we're not supposed to talk about selling here but hello, that is exactly what we, photographers, are doing here.

And I'm not entirely sure about how to "sell myself" but at the very least I can be more authentic about who I am when I'm not holding a camera.

So here are a few things about moi that you may be interested in. 😆

💛 I curse like a sailer. Don’t worry, not in front of children. Just over coffee or during a morning stroll. It's more chill-cursing. Whatever that means. 🤷🏻‍♀️

💛 I believe that Black lives matter. I believe in science, in this damn virus, in wearing masks, in teaching critical race theory, in equal pay for women, in global warming, in love being love, and LGBTQ rights. Jesus, why is it so fu***ng hard for us to just LOVE and CARE for one another?

💛 I'm working on a personal project focused on women who have chosen not to be mothers. Interested? Slide into my DM's.

💛 I LOVE dancing. In clubs, in the yard, on a stage, in the kitchen. When you feel it, dance it.

💛 I am not planning on having kids. It's my choice.

💛 I'm also working on learning and documenting more about my family's history. Specifically, at the moment, my father's side.

💛 I always laugh (like LOL) when children are naughty. Whether during a session or not. I physically can't help it.

💛 Confession: I've very recently purchased two t-shirts with cats printed on them. Some say cat lady, I say 'fun-as-hell'. Pictures coming soon.😻

And while this isn't everything I could share, it's more than enough for a Wednesday.

💛 Leanne 😘

I met Becky and Tyler a few years ago when they hired me for baby announcement photos. She wasn't even showing yet.

Within the first 30 seconds we were fast friends. But if you know Becky it's hard not to love her and the energy she brings to any room.

We've become friends over the years. Even hanging out when I don't have a camera. 😆

Today they say good-bye, or perhaps just a see-you-later, to NC as they begin a new chapter in PA with their sweet little Isla.

I'll miss the cocktails, conversation, and Target finds. But I know it won't be long until we enjoy them again in person!

Hugs and love to you guys and 💛

Today is Elsie’s birthday.

I don’t have photos of her, or of she and I, from when I was little.

So these photos, and a handful more, will always be so precious to me. The important ones, the few ones, always are. 🤍

Those days when the unexpected gets thrown in your lap and you just can’t. 😂Happy Monday friends! 💛

When I think of I think of pride.

My dad, specifically, was a proud man. Of his career, his time in the military, his 'toys', his country, his travels. And of course his family.

This man could tell a story. And when he did people listened. Maybe it was his deep, perfect-for-radio-voice or the pride he had in each and every word, but you listened.

In his time he flew lear jets, drove 18 wheelers, bull dozers, and captained his own boat. You know that saying, work hard, play harder? Dad held the idea that work could be play as well.

He wasn't extremely verbal in his pride for his family. At least not to us directly. We are told, even today, of the stories he would tell about his children and grandchildren.

What do you think about when you think of ? Is it your own? Is it someone else who held the space in your life?

Share a story about your dad or the idea of father that you may have. Tag me and the hashtag so that I can share with others.
