Ecclesiastes 7:2-3 "It is better to go to the house of mourning
than to go to the house of feasting, for this is the end of all mankind, and the living will lay it to heart. Sorrow is better than laughter, for by sadness of face the heart is made glad."

Today. October 28 over 200 people came to the house of mourning alongside the family of Adam Sharifi. The day honored Adam for is sacrifice in death, but his life of love. Love for his family, friends, community but foremost for his Savior Jesus Christ.
John 15:13 "Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends."

The grief of loss will not cease today, but continue for the remaining lives of those who loved Adam. The time of "mourning" will vary for each person and we need to continue supporting them thru prayer and friendship.

John 3:16-18
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed din the name of the only Son of God."

As our community continues to mourn the tragic death of VZ Deputy Sherifi, we also continue to support his family.
Two fundraisers today took place: Farmhouse Hands Learning Center and Monroe & Co in Canton.

Galatians 6:2 "Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ."

1 Peter 4:10 "As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace"

Mark 12:30-31 "And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

Today, 10/26 Adam was brought back to the county. Our good-byes will take part Wednesday at 1pm.

Van Zandt Strong has been proven again as we travel the path of tragedy, death. Many have gathered to support the Sherifi and Henson families and for Officer Watson with his injury. The prayers, well wishes donations is an outpouring of love and the community uniting to do so is a wonderful part of the healing process.

Thank you to everyone that joined Ryan Hansen with the BBQ fundraiser - from cooking, provisions, serving, setting up, donating, entertaining and even the porta-potties. The quick selfless generosity was amazing.

I was blessed to stop by the BBQ fundraiser briefly, here are a few of the pictures.

Ryan also did a wonderful job with media interviews.

The 2026 Ben Wheeler Hog Festival on Saturday, October 24 Honored Deputy Adam Sherifi, as honorary Grand Marshal in memory of Sherifi's life and service.

Deputy Sherifi served alongside our firefighters on emergency scenes, making this loss deeply personal to many within our department and throughout our community. He was a fellow first responder, a neighbor, and a valued member of the community we all call home.

When law enforcement arrived at the center stage area, they briefly stood next to their vehicles and Deputy Sherifi's unit for a time of prayer and remembrance.

The Henson family was also recognized with prayer.

The support of our community and beyond is helpful in the healing process. Thank you.

"The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit." Psalm 34:218

VZ SO held a press conference at 10am this morning.
Information provided regarding the event on officers as they attempted to serve a felony warrant on the shooter.

Listening to the report presented by Sheriff Bridger I am grateful that no other lives were lost in the ambush. I call it an ambush because over 800 rounds were fired on law enforcement and the first officers didn't have a chance.
Officer Watson was injured, and with the assistance of another officer was removed from the "line of fire".

As Sheriff Bridger stated, " we will not let evil define how we answer the call."
The description of the event by Sheriff depicts what could have been more catastrophic.

As we continue to mourn the loss of Adam, we are grateful for the successful surgery and healing process for injured Canton Officer Watson. I continue to prayer for the emotional healing of everyone involved.

Prayer is also extended for the Henson family, another tragedy.

Words are still inadequate. Gratitude for our community coming together to honor our fallen and injured and to pray. We also pray for the family in the fire. We pray for the effects of these tragedies on our first responders.

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

Many lives were changed, quickly last night. Our community grieves the loss of lives. Continue to support each other, but look to Jesus for the comfort. As Pastor Mike Burns from Victory Church in Canton read today, John 16:33 "I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart, I have overcome"

simply put: Life is messy, and unpleasant but for those who follow Jesus we can have peace in the mild of the difficulties. Jesus won!
