Looks like we have a south wind kicking up, which is bringing all of this smoke from the prescribed Ricefield Burns directly into Willows. My throat is burning like a son of a gun. Let me tell you. Can’t even open the outside windows to enjoy the air.

Good afternoon folks, expect a cooling trend along with rain chances coming up here this week, if you’re out and about enjoying this beautiful weather, and you need fuel and don’t feel like paying over six dollars a gallon here in Willows, head up to Orland, where gas is 5.45!

Potential power shut offs for Glenn County on 10/11 and 10/12…

Current forecasts indicated approximately 12,200 customers across portions of 17 California counties could be affected if power shutoffs were implemented.

Those counties include Alameda, Butte, Colusa, Fresno, Glenn, Kern, Kings, Lake, Merced, Napa, San Benito, San Joaquin, San Luis Obispo, Shasta, Solano, Tehama and Yolo.

Weather forecasts called for strong westerly winds Saturday, Oct. 10, with gusts between 30 and 45 mph and peak gusts reaching 55 mph across portions of the Northern Sierra. Northerly winds were then expected Sunday, Oct. 11, in the Sacramento Valley.

Don’t spend your money on gas here in Willows. They’re almost a dollar higher, then the gas prices in Orland. stop at Maverick. stations around Willows are in my opinion price gouging which is not cool for a small community. Oh, and the weather is too hot to be outside next 4 days 😆

Currently, conditions are clear at 66°F with 69% humidity and moderate air quality (AQI 57). Expect a hot stretch ahead as temperatures reach the low triple digits through mid-week.

Highs will reach 97°F today before hitting 101°F–102°F Saturday through Wednesday, with overnight lows dipping into the low 60s. Relief arrives late next week as temperatures cool back into the 80s.

With 11 hours and 44 minutes of daylight (sunrise at 7:07 AM, sunset at 6:51 PM), plan outdoor activities like walking or biking early in the morning or later in the evening. Late nights will offer clear skies for stargazing the ongoing meteor showers under the waning gibbous moon.

Willows and the surrounding Sacramento Valley area offer great viewing conditions for both showers.

Draconids (Peak: Evening of Oct 8–9): Being in Northern California puts you in a prime position. The Draconids favor the Northern Hemisphere, and their radiant point (Draco) is high in the sky right after sunset.

Orionids (Active now through early Nov): Also visible from Willows late at night, with early meteors appearing after midnight.

Tips for Best Viewing in Glenn County

Head West or East: While Glenn County towns have relatively low light pollution, driving just 10–15 minutes out toward the dark agricultural fields (or out toward the Mendocino National Forest foothills to the west) will dramatically increase how many fainter meteors you can spot.

Timing for the Draconids: Look up between sunset and midnight on Oct 8. Unlike most showers that require waking up at 3:00 AM, the Draconids put on their best show in the early evening hours.

No Gear Needed: You don't need a telescope or binoculars—just find a dark spot, lie back, and let your eyes adapt to the night sky for 15–20 minutes.
