Lately, I’ve found myself thinking a lot about something that’s been popping up more and more in photography groups I’m in–the use of generative AI in editing and image processing. It’s also something I’ve seen discussed in other hobby communities I’m part of, and it made me realize it’s probably worth talking about here, too.
I’ve noticed people posting photos in these groups where others will run them through generative AI to show examples or alternative edits. While I understand the curiosity around new technology, I personally don’t participate in that. Sharing or uploading someone else’s image into an AI system–even as an example–just isn’t something I’m comfortable with.
When you trust me with your photos, especially photos of your children or family, that trust means everything to me. I don’t upload client images into outside generative AI programs, and I don’t allow them to be used in any kind of AI training systems. The only AI-related tools I use are the built-in features inside Adobe Photoshop & Adobe Lightroom Classic for small cleanup tasks, like removing a distracting object or person in the background. That’s where it stops.
I do share select images on my Facebook and website to showcase my work, but you can always request that your photos remain private. Just let me know at any time–your comfort and trust mean more to me than any post ever could.
