Imagine your oldest, still an only child, 3 years old, you hesitated to book the session because the baby weight was clinging, you hated your hair and hadn’t slept in years.
Fast forward, that baby is middle aged, the oldest of 3, all grown with their own lives spread out over the world. They sit down for their morning coffee, waiting for their own teenagers to get out of bed on a Sunday. They look over at their end table frames to see that picture of you, Mom, holding their little body around your ribs, their face buried in your hair that always smelled like fresh air, draped over your chest where the “Mama” necklace sat for decades, head back laughing while they pouted through the whole session in their perfectly curated outfit you hand selected.
Looking at that, they can hear your laugh, remember the way you always wiggled them side to side to get them to laugh, they can smell the hair you thought was awful and it brings them an intense warmth and a smile on a regular old Sunday thinking about how lucky they are to have had you as a mom.
Give those memories, give those feelings. You might have been on the espresso train headed non stop to Exhaustion Land, but you are their hero and their first safe place and best friend. Photos mean something far beyond the family holiday card or Instagram post, we might just not realize it yet.
