Youâve spent the last 17+ years watching this child grow into their personality. Countless hours sitting on freezing cold bleachers thinking, âwait, is that snow?? In May? Why did I take the sleeping bag out of the trunk??â And if the bleachers arenât windy and freezing, they are hot and humid, âItâs nice to be warm finally, but a couple clouds would be appreciated ⌠Do I have an umbrella in the back of the car?â
Determining how early you need to go up to school to wait in line to get into the auditorium for that band/orchestra/chorus concert. Remember those beginner concerts when you wondered, âhmm, is the rhythm section playing a different time signature than the brass section?â
Theyâve worked hard at those things that uniquely contribute to who they are developing into and youâve worked hard supporting and encouraging that growth. Youâve consistently been there as they showed up and took risks â supporting them in the tough losses and celebrating their accomplishments.
Enjoy the moments with your high school senior this year. My oldest son is already halfway through college! While he was in high school, I never thought Iâd miss running around an overgrown field trying to get to the next section of the race course where I could cheer for 5 seconds as my son sped by me, but when I pass by the portrait of him on the prairie path in his Wheaton North cross country t-shirt, I remember the muddy paths, the anticipation of waiting for the runners to round the bend, and the thrill of watching him beat a âPRâ (personal record).
