Tyler Pasenko Photography Exploring the world around me, through the lens of a camera. During that trip, my primary focus was on the wildlife and flora of the region.

I’ve always loved the idea of professional photography and was finally able to put my passion into action in 2015 when I purchased my first DSLR camera in anticipation of a trip to Costa Rica. I was often following the monkeys trying to find the perfect spot for the best picture and I also enjoyed finding the smaller creatures of the world, such as a spider hanging onto their web or a butterfly pe

rched in a flower. In 2016, I embarked upon a new adventure, spending the entire summer at Yellowstone National Park where I indulged my love of wildlife photography and expanded into photographing the geological wonders in the park. I spent hours waiting for geysers to erupt and hiking to secluded waterfalls. I woke up before the crack of dawn to drive long distances through the park to hear the wolves howl and capture the moment they left their den, admiring from afar as the pups played. I stayed up well into the night to capture the glistening stars behind an erupting geyser. And all of it was magical. I love to capture the essence of an animal through their expansive eyes and the perfect moment in time when the sun is just right and the beauty of the world can only be described through a photo. I hope you enjoy my work as much as I’ve enjoyed creating and sharing it.

Black Elk Peak part 1

Well its not often I get to say I climbed a mountain but hey.... I climbed a mountain. Now this certainly wasn't from the base, I would have died. But, at around 7 miles round trip and close to 1400 feet elevation gain, it was a bit of a doozy for me. But Rebecca and I pushed forward with encouraging words to one another and made it to the top.

At the peak lies an old fire lookout tower that stood tall and provided some amazing views of the Black Hills. This is a trail I recommend everyone tackle at least once if given the chance as the views are stunning.

In The Wake of Giants

Oh Badlands how I miss you. The Notch Trail was a pretty cool journey and if I am being honest the ladder we had to climb up and down was a little intimidating. You would start almost walking on each step just like normal stairs but then it would turn into a vertical crawl towards the end. But we persevered and were able to capture some incredible views.

We actually timed this trail pretty darn well with the sunset and it created some wonderful colors on the large formations around us. Ten out of ten, would hike again.

The Setting Sun

Another look back to my trip to the Badlands with Rebecca. I have said numerous times before how impressed I was with this park. The vast and wild rock formations that have light rays breaking apart the dark shadows reveling all of the colorful rock.

This sunset picture was difficult to take for one reason and one reason only. The bugs. The huge clouds of mosquitos swarmed us numerous times. I think we both had over 50 bites on each appendage by the time I took my final shot. Was it worth it? Hell yes.

The Valley

Recently my great friend Austen invited Rebecca and I to join him on a hike into the wild with one goal in mind, spot some of the mighty grizzlies that roam the area. We set out early one morning to an area that many grizzlies call their home and ventured forth into the cold vast wilderness.

After some miles had been tacked onto our morning journey our guide stopped and quickly called us over to a spot he was observing. What could it be? Gold? Diamonds? How about an incredible grizzly track preserved in the mud. This was exciting for all of us and a little concerning as this track was fresh.

Unfortunately we never did find the culprit of the fresh print and maybe that's a good thing, but I do know that one of these mighty creatures walked the same path we did hours before.

Stormy days with a splash of color

Another look back at some of the photos that have been in my archive for a bit now. I had completely forgotten about these two images and couldn't really figure out why. I loved the color tones expressed in these images thanks to the new Hasselblad camera. Even stormy days can bring some magic.

Rainy Days

Sometimes rainy days can provide some of the most interesting scenes and colors. I have always been one to aim for the more gloomy or moody scenes in my photography, so I never run from a rainy day. These two images were taken a little while back in Yellowstone National Park.

The geyser pictured here is Vixen Geyser, a little gem off the Norris Geyser basin that is dwarfed by the obvious giant that is Steamboat Geyser. But this little guy can put on quite a show sometimes.

Friends and frogs

I wanted to take a little bit of time to recognize a group of friend's that have always been with me thought-out my photography career. I wanted to show some of the images I was able to capture on a hiking trip we took together as well as some of the let's say behind the scenes images from the trip. These people will always be able to make me laugh and smile no matter how many times life kicks you when you are down.

Hold your friends close and keep the memories alive. Love these people to death.

Indiana Sun

The one thing that will never change about my style of photography is the constant love for a sunrise or sunset, symbolizing the beginning of a beautiful day or the end of an amazing one. But, I am not alone in that feeling. I think a lot of photographers look forward to photographing lovely rays from the sun.

One thing I was not ready for in my journey as a photographer was how these things hit different in Indiana. Something about the Midwest creates this almost magical glow that I will not forget.

Beach days

Indiana Dunes National Park borders Lake Michigan, so we obviously had to stop to dip our feet in. I can't remember the last time I was at a beach and couldn't see a land mass on the other side.

One of our stops along the beach were the Century of Progress Homes, which were in the 1933 World's Fair in Chicago and shipped on a barge across Lake Michigan. The pink house, aka the Florida Tropical House, stood out to me the most as the sun rays added a nice warm glow.

Another one crossed off my list!

I recently traveled back to Rebecca's old stomping grounds. While we were there, she shared stories of her younger days, we explored backcountry roads, and I meet some of the family. This was an amazing part of the trip but one aspect that took me off guard was Indiana Dunes National Park.

This national park has multiple ecosystems that seamlessly transition from one to the other like a walk through time. At one point we stood next to Mount Baldy, which is a massive sand dune that is slowly moving and engulfing the parking lot because of erosion. Another time we stood in a dense deciduous forest filled with green as far as the eye could see. Rebecca shared tons of knowledge with me about this impressive area and it's no wonder she is one of the smartest people I know.

Above Yellowstone

I recently had the pleasure to join a good buddy of mine, .royinyellowstone , on a quick trip into the park. But, this one had a different vantage point.

After some planning, time management, and the selection of which camera to use, we flew into the air. I picked my X1D Mark II as my camera of choice, and boy was it a good choice. We had a very small window to capture our shots and with only one chance, I fired away.

It was a special treat seeing Yellowstone National Park from the air and it is a memory I will never forget.

A Grand Landscape

I leave this adventure for now but I wanted to share one last image. I wanted to combine two things when composing this shot. I wanted to show that one single frame just doesn't do this beautiful area enough justice. So I combined five images together to form this panoramic.

I also wanted this image to be a surprise for Rebecca. I have talked about how much she loves the yellow mounds in a previous post and this entire park as a whole. So this image is a huge thanks to her for sharing this wonderful adventure with me.
