We haven't mentioned it here on our page yet but we started a second publication on Substack called 'Meet the Berkshires' – it's a place for us to share the work we do photographing the makers, artisans, and small businesses we discover here in the Berkshires, MA. We just completed our second feature, this time profiling Lily Thorne Studio, a fine woodworker and maker of custom furniture and tableware in our little town of West Stockbridge, MA. See the piece at https://theberkshires.substack.com/p/lily-thorne-studio

We are unveiling some new work in printed form: our first zine, 'First Frost / Final Bloom' is out now.

A full color, 32-page, 6.75 x 9” staple-bound zine, it features 21 previously unseen photographs made on a walk among frozen dahlias on October 10, 2025 at 11lenoxflowerfarm in West Stockbridge, MA, and includes an evocative introduction by writer Lee Buttala. To learn more, we published a newsletter about it (see https://newsletter.pappasbland.com/p/fffb), or head straight to our website to grab a copy from https://pappasbland.com/fffb

The signed and numbered limited edition of 30 which includes a small print is running low, and we have some open edition copies still available too.

If you live in Berkshire County we are offering free shipping – see the link above for details.

We’ve recently been collaborating on seasonal visual storytelling with Winslow Antiques.

Winslow Antiques is nestled within The Galleries at Knollwood in Lee, Massachusetts, where containers brimming with English antiques—hand-picked by Elizabeth Winslow—arrive regularly in the heart of the Berkshires. Her passion for old things and her effortless style shine through. Her home overflows with artwork, light, color, texture, tempting stacks of books to explore, and cozy corners to sink into.

For our Spring 2025 shoot, stepping into her Catskills home felt like a trip to England. We captured the fabrics, prints, tableware, and furniture of the Spring 2025 collection, alongside environmental portraits of Elizabeth in the beautiful world she’s crafted.

If you know someone that deserves to have their story artfully documented we’d love to help bring it to life—feel free to reach out or share this with them.

In our last newsletter, Tom wrote about utilizing two sources of inspiration – our beautiful meadow in the and painter’s plastic – to make a photograph that required collaboration and joinery to construct a diffusion box. Prints of 'Diffused Goldenrod' were only available for 7 days but will become available again from October 1st 2025.

Sign up to our newsletter to ensure you don't miss out on future art drops: https://newsletter.pappasbland.com. Art Drop 18 will land on 11/1/24.

Some behind the scenes process for you all here… Our studio needs a large custom table for our photography prints. We’ve delayed it as long as we could but yesterday we took the plunge and went to an amazing lumber supply store (shout out to Dresser Hull Lumber & Building Supply in Lee, MA) with our carpenter Jake who has built much of the interior of our house. Jake is a master at what he does and an excellent teacher, and after troubleshooting our design with him he guided us through how to build something like this – the tools, safety, best practices, and then some. Also, my parents are visiting from England and they not only love hardware stores but my Dad is also very handy at making things and home improvement projects, so he was in his element here. Here are some progress photos. We’ll share a photo of the finished table when it’s all done.
