The BEST tip I’ve got for a great summer family session in the sun is to
GET IN THE WATER!

If we’re doing a beach session, let’s tell the story of your day by finishing it IN the ocean! It’s absolutely the best way to cool off, and it’s usually what the little ones have been itching to do the entire time anyway.

If you’re a surf family, love to paddle or kayak, let’s craft your session around it.

At home: run through a sprinkler, play with the garden hose, or set up a kiddie pool.

Downtown or at the zoo, the fountains are loads of fun!

Water automatically brings so much joy and playfulness to your family session, and it’s a very real part of South Florida Summers.

Hello Memorial Day weekend!

To kick off this sun-drenched season, I’m sharing my top 5 tips for having an AMAZING summer family session here in South Florida despite the heat.

Summer is actually an awesome time to book a session—schedules tend to be more flexible, and many locations less crowded.

You just have to plan around the uncomfortable parts of summer, embracing the season for what it is rather than fighting it!

I’ll share one tip a day here for the next five days, and you can find them all in this blog post: https://www.hannahmayophotography.com/blog/south-florida-summer-photo-session-tips

Check back this afternoon for tip number one!

No stress, just JOY!

But seriously, I’d love to know:

What stresses you out most when it comes to booking a family photography session?
What are the things that cause you to put it off?
Or you have it in the calendar, but you feel the pressure building as the date approaches?

I don’t only want you to LOVE your photos—I want you to also ENJOY the entire process, including the session itself!
So I’m always looking for ways to put your mind at ease and help you feel great at every step.

Making something “perfect” is easy in the age of AI. Like scary easy.

But I’m not the least bit worried about my job,
because my job has never been about that.

A picture can be pretty and yet devoid of meaning, of memory, and of substance.

I’m interested in what’s REAL
in capturing connection, quirks, joy—all the things that make your family who they are.
Your session is made of actual memories from moments you actually spent together.

I see it as job security, because I believe there will always be people who feel disgust for the artificial and a longing for the authentic.

Those are my people.

Time for an introduction! Because you should know who you’re working with.

I’m Hannah Mayo.

Mom to 4 amazing people aged 8-17. That age range still blows my mind because they really were *just* tiny—like yesterday. I get to raise them with my sweet husband Manny who always knows how to make me laugh.

I shot my first “professional” photo session in 2008, and for these nearly 18 years I’ve enjoyed a career that has included everything from newborns to weddings, commercial work to birth stories.
But families have been the constant thread in my work, and as my own family grew my passion also developed for specializing in capturing the beauty of the quickly-changing seasons for other moms.
Telling the story of your growing family from year to year—ensuring that you’re in beautiful photos with your kids at the stage they’re in right now. Helping you to see the astounding beauty of your own everyday life in the midst of the chaos of little ones and busy schedules… that is a passion and a mission for me.

You don’t have to apologize for the mess, for the kids, for anything—because you know that I’ve seen it ALL! (Did I mention that 3 of my 4 are boys? 😜)

I know how easy it is to just leave booking the photoshoot for later. When life slows down, or when you feel more confident, or when you’re not so tired. But these kiddos will never be quite as little as they are today. This season you’re in right now is one you’ll want to remember. I promise. Just do it, and trust me: we’ll make some magic. ✨

Alright, 10 more things about me:

1. I’m a reader. I did a semester of a librarian grad program before starting my photography business. I especially love historical fiction.

2. I’ve homeschooled my children since 2014, which has been one of the most rewarding and challenging endeavors of my life.

3. I’m constantly learning. I love a good deep dive and am especially interested in health & nutrition. I’ve always got podcasts, audiobooks, and at least 5 different books stacked on my nightstand.

4. I was married at 19 years old, which now 19 years later is so wild to think about. We were such babies then! and we’ve really grown up together.
