~Rise~

Good evening! Hope everyone had a good fall. I have some exciting news to reveal shortly; art collectors will be pleased. More to come next week for a big announcement!

This could be one of my favorite scenes I have ever witnessed from Glacier National Park. This image was taken fall 2021, and it was one of the last days Going to the Sun Road would be open until Spring 2022. This undisclosed location was tricky to access, but well worth the sketchy trek to this platform.

I remember seeing the low ceiling of clouds before sunrise form over the mountain peaks, and knowing there was a clear way from the east, the sunrise had potential to "pop off". Well, my gamble proved to be a success, and I had witnessed some of the most incredible light crest over Going to the Sun Mountain. The fall colors and light shining upon the clouds and mountainside perfectly accented another.

It was a morning I will never forget, and reminds me how lucky I am to have opportunities to not only witness these scenes, but to also capture them in all their glory.

Winter is quickly approaching!

One of my favorite compositions for fall photography is capturing reflections of golden trees in very slow or still bodies of water. This time of year, the rivers and streams are very low providing glassy stretches of water where the flow appears almost non-existent. Right now, you’ll find me around those glass-like stretches of rivers in the morning and evening light, hoping an opportunity will come my way.

This image was taken last fall along McDonald Creek near Lake McDonald. So far this fall has been more summer-like; lots of blue skies, warm days and cool nights. However, that changed abruptly today.. I spent the most of the day over on the east side of Glacier Park getting snowed on! If you check my stories later this evening, you will see glimpses of elk in snow and yellow leaves juxtaposed to a light blanket of white!

Happy fall everyone!

~Awaken~

I just got back this morning from the east side as I was scouting locations for this fall, which is always the most exciting time of year to shoot. I’m excited about the potential of several new compositions I found, and hope the light and weather cooperate!

Although, I didn’t get a shot yesterday or today, I went back to my archives and found this gem from years ago. This was taken at a time when I was experimenting with my style - interesting foregrounds, balance of angles and leading lines, as well as focus stacking through the depth of field. However, I also shot this in landscape mode and originally liked that better..

I’ve seen some incredible sunrises at Many Glacier over the years and this had to be one of the most robust I’ve witnessed.

~ Powerful Sunset Over "The Big" ~

We have had a much colder and wet spring than normal, but it has created an abundance of colorful greenery around the Flathead. In addition, the sunsets and sunrises lately have been breathtaking. I've managed to get out a few times and collect a few images I've really enjoyed.

This particular sunset on the edge of Whitefish, Montana was very powerful and bright. The low ceiling of storm cloud that was passing above Whitefish Mountain Resort provided the ultimate painter's palette of color variation. I remember the pinks that followed the orange, but it was much more subtle. The orange from the setting sun was so strong and bold; I decided to go with it instead of the former.

If you've driven Edgewood Drive Northeast of Whitefish, you probably recognize this iconic red barn and white picket fence.

You might recognize this image if you follow my stories on Facebook or Instagram (). Two weeks ago, I spent a couple nights on the east side of the Rocky Mountain Front photographing sunrises and sunsets all over the Front and Square Butte. I originally posted a cell phone image of this location with my camera in the background.

To get this image, I needed special permission from a Hutterite Family on a large private farm just west of Square Butte. The owner was skeptical of me at first.. It didnt help that I looked like a dirtball camping in my jeep for the last two nights, but he quickly abliged after he saw my camera equipment, which was suprising. He just asked me not to "squat" (camp) on his land lol. Afterward, he jumped back in his tractor, which is the dust you see in the distance under the butte.

This Butte isnt of Square Butte, but a smaller one to the west. After being granted permission to explore their private lands, I wondered about and found this water way giving me a nice leading line and reflection of the butte. It was a perfect setup; albeit I wish the clouds hadnt given way too much at sunset. Otherwise, I am very satisfied how this shot turned out. With how cold this spring has been, I hope the warmth of this image helps ease the pain!

Hello again! Wow, has it really been seven months since I last posted an image? Do I even remember how to do this? Are hashtags still a thing? Rumor on the street says still photography reach/engagement is down 99%, so I’ll be lucky to get 200 likes and 2 comments.. Thanks TikTok!

I took this photo around this same time last year. I do remember spending a good couple hours at this location watching the clouds move up the mountain, and witnessing the light dance across the plains, illuminating the barn at times - my favorite conditions for this spot!

Just a heads up, I did a ton of editing of images I’ve taken from the past two years over this winter. I have about 25 images in cue to share - some are my favorites I’ve ever taken.. Super stoked about that. I feel fresh and will post more than I have been. In addition, I might look into selling a few prints as strictly originals - one print EVER of that image. It will be pricey, but I think its makes the image so much more authentic when there is only one out there. Therefore, if you’re a collector, you might be interested. Hit me up if you think that may be you!

~Luminescence~

So often, I envision a scene and will come back as many times as it takes until it comes to fruition. However, I strike out. A lot. For instance, there is a undisclosed location (2 in fact) that I’ve spent the last several weeks trying to capture a mood, a scene. I’m particular, very much so.. Especially, in my old age; I won’t settle. Even if it takes hiking miles in rain and hail, and again, sitting in a tree for an hour getting rained on… until, the sky parted and light broke through - boom! Finally, a scene I desired is captured, and the focus switches as the hunt for other compositions continues..

A couple weeks ago, I found this old pine with half of its roots suspended in the air off the trail (check story). It was so unique and gave me an opportunity to capture Grinnell Lake and Angel Wing in a new light. Light broke through the clouds and rain intermittently, but it was a good hour sitting within a couple small trees, and needles poking at my back until I got the right mood. Well worth the crazy weather I endured!

If you haven’t noticed, I’ve dissolved my print store side of the business (for now). I’m going to be trialing some new things - possible original art sales; digital and (possible) non digital assets. This is a little farther down the road, but wheels are turning. More info to come.

~Defrost~

It’s that time of year again, as the lakes and rivers thaw out, birds return from the south, and summer dreams and adventure plans are beginning to be forged. I love spring energy. My favorite spring and fall compositions are dark, moody skies and foreground lit up by powerful sunlight.

Feels way too long since I’ve been out exploring on a solo photography trip; keeping it simple - car camping and making coffee out of the back of my jeep at the base of stunning mountain ranges. The last time I spent more than two nights road-tripping with my camera was last summer in the Badlands of South Dakota, where I spent a week chasing the comet. Between working in the ICU as an RN on the weekends and trading stocks all week, my free days feels limited, lately. This was a much needed trip, as well as needed inspiration for planning further springs adventures.

What do you have planned for spring adventures? Any ideas for places to check out next?

~Encore~

Greetings facebook crowd!

This will be my first post in 2021.. Wow, that is way too long in between showcasing my images. Well, I do have some valid excuses. I just bought a house in Whitefish and having been working on securing financing etc. It will be finished in April and I couldn't be more stoked to move in. Also, I have started to scale back my photography business, and pursue a more hobby approach. In addition, I am changing directions on a second career besides nursing - hopefully, one that will make me more financially independent someday soon. I have big goals and dreams to travel and shoot the world someday. Hoping to get there sooner than later.

In the meantime, I have no problem spending my days shooting landscapes in and around Glacier Park/northwestern Montana. I haven't had my camera in my hands enough this year, but its always in the back of my head. I think about the next adventure in the mountains, endlessly.

Yesterday, I was exhausted from a long week of nightshifts at the hospital. I needed to just drive and clear my head..I spent some time in the Mission Valley, but ultimately, the weather and cloud patterns brought me back home - the state park at Whitefish Lake, precisely. I knew Big Mountain would get lit up by the clear skies to the west and heavy clouds surrounding the mountain. All I had to do was wait.

I spent some time wandering the shoreline and lined up a couple shots from the trees, but ultimately found this opening in the ice where a small creek lead me in from the shore. I had to get really low to make the opening in the ice seem large as well as catch a reflection glimpse. Tourists came down to gawk at the light for a good hour or so, as I bided my time for the real alpenglow to appear. It was such a show to witness! Felt so good to finally capture a good sunset in a long time.
