I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard “we have no idea how to pose so you will have to help us” before extended family sessions. And trust me, I TOTALLY get it. Even as a photographer of over 6 years, when I get in front of the camera I still have no idea how to pose 😂

That’s why I’m going to give directions, move you around, and make sure you know what to do with your hands. Because it’s not your job to worry about that, it’s mine!

And if I’m being honest…sometimes I might have you pose a certain way and then change it up because I don’t like the way it looks. It’s all trial and error because every person, family, and family dynamic is different.

This year I wanted something different. I was sick of doing the same ole “stand there and pose” for the camera thing. So I asked my photographer friend if we could trade sessions and she could do one of my family fishing.

It was hotter than expected and a bit chaotic with a little one, but these are the types of photos I will cherish forever. Not because everyone is looking at the camera (I intentionally only shared the ones where my daughters face isn’t showing) but because we were at a park I grew up going to as a kid and doing something fun for our daughter.
Plus Grandma and Grandpa came along too which made it even more memorable.

Sure we got the posed ones of everyone smiling at the camera, but these ones are my favorite ❤️

There is one thing Ive learned over the years as a Wisconsin family photographer and that’s that connection with the little ones is the most important.

Sure I could chat it up with Mom or Dad…but if you want the cute photos of your littles, then I need to chat with them the most ❤️

When Mom texts me back and says “Omg melissa I’m crying you are the toddler whisper!!!” you know you are winning! 🏆

You just had your third baby. Youre a few weeks postpartum and youre running on fumes. Youre taking in these beautiful moments while also managing all the chaos that comes along with it. Youre in the thick of it.

Thats why newborn sessions with me are relaxed, laid-back, and actually meant to be fun. Theres absolutely no pressure to clean your house. No pressure to have the kids “behave”. No reason to stress at all because I remember those days and will forever show up for families (especially Moms) the way they deserve ❤️❤️

To those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, thank you. Today, no matter what you’re doing, take a moment to be thankful. Thankful for the job you have. Thankful for the home you’re gathered in. Thankful for the freedom to live the life you do every single day.

Because without the brave men and women who gave everything for this country, we would not have these freedoms. Today we remember, honor, and thank them for the sacrifices they made for all of us. 🇺🇸
