My home is, and always will be, a place free from domestic violence. It was created to represent a reality that far too many people silently endure behind closed doors.

Yesterday, our community was shaken when a domestic violence incident turned deadly. A woman lost her life. A family was forever changed.

It's a painful reminder that we never truly know what someone is facing once they walk through their front door.

The smiling family at the grocery store. The coworker who says they're "just tired." The friend who slowly disappears from social gatherings. The neighbor who always insists everything is "fine."

Sometimes, those are the people living in fear.

Domestic violence isn't just bruises. It can be control, intimidation, isolation, threats, financial abuse, emotional manipulation, and a constant feeling of walking on eggshells. It thrives in silence.

If someone trusts you enough to tell you they're afraid, believe them. Listen without judgment. Help them find resources. Be patient. Leaving an abusive relationship is often the most dangerous time in a victim's life, and it is rarely as simple as "just leave."

And if you're living through it yourself, please know this: you deserve safety. You deserve peace. You deserve a home where love never has to be confused with fear.

Let's stop assuming we know what someone's life looks like behind closed doors. Compassion, awareness, and action can save lives.

My heart goes out to everyone affected by yesterday's tragedy. May we honor those we've lost by doing everything we can to protect those who are still waiting for someone to believe them.

Here is a link to a fundraiser setup for the grieving family. If you are willing and can please consider donating.
