Your favorite photos from your wedding might be the ones you were not even in. 🤍

While you are saying your vows, your dad is falling apart three rows back. While you are lost in your first dance, your best friend is watching you from the edge of the floor with a look you were never meant to catch. I spend the day turned toward those corners of the room, the ones you cannot be in because you are the reason everyone came. Months later, this is the part of the gallery that surprises couples the most. It is the day they missed while they were in it.

The moment you stop treating your wedding like a production is the moment the photos actually get good. 👀

Somewhere along the way, weddings started to feel more like productions than celebrations, and I understand how it happened. When everything is built to look perfect for a camera, you end up performing your own day instead of living it.

But your wedding was never meant to be a photoshoot. It is one of the only days your favorite people will all be in one room at once. The photos I love most come from the moment you stop thinking about how it looks and start feeling how it feels.

The same thing that makes a wedding gallery matter is what makes a family session matter. It is never really about the photos. 🤍

Everyone shows up thinking about the outfits and whether the kids will cooperate. I am watching for other things. The way your dad pulls a grandchild onto his lap without thinking, the laugh your mom catches before anyone tells her to smile, the four generations standing in one frame for the first and maybe only time. I bring the same attention here that I bring to a wedding day, because the love in a family is just as worth documenting, and it is changing faster than you realize.

Almost every couple starts by telling me how awkward they are in front of the camera, and I have learned not to believe them. 🤍

What they are describing is not awkwardness. It is the pressure to pose correctly and to know what to do before anyone has shown them. That was never theirs to carry. My job is to make the camera disappear so the two of you can just be together. That is where the real photos live, and it is why we start at your engagement session, long before the day itself.

If you are trying to decide which photographer to trust with your day, let these make the case for me. 🤍

I have never been able to explain what I do in a way that sounds like much. I stay quiet, I stay close, and I wait for the half second nobody is performing, the one where his face changes before he can stop it or your mom gives up on holding it together. Those are the frames I build a whole gallery around, because years from now they are the only ones that will still put you back in the room.
