So…there’s a book coming out in a few days.
“What’s this?” you ask. “Bobby has actually written something, and a Slow Burn book no less!”
While you’re processing that, I’ll drop an Amazon link on you. The book is available for pre-order right now, but goes live on October 1st: https://www.amazon.com/Slow-Burn-Book-Marks-Damnation-ebook/dp/B0HKPZMX94 (oh, and that's not the final book cover on the pre-sale link. I just can't change it until after 10/1)
The audiobook should be out in 2-4 weeks. It’s already recorded and is going through post-production right now. Phil Thron is narrating again : )
Back to biz. As a preface to telling you about the book, I need to explain that I spent some time in Hollywood’s giant waiting room in the Spring of 2025. It’s kind of like an enormous, dimly lit Costco covering a few hundred acres of desert east of the city. It’s filled with rickety little desks, squeaky chairs, and small desk lamps, completely covering the floor and piling up on the warehouse racks. At every one of the tens of thousands of desks sits a pale-skinned writer toiling over word choices and comma placement while pining for a moment on the red carpet to bask in excess adulation flowing off the movie stars floating past, and hoping that their timid little ideas somehow find their way to the silver screen. Or the living room flat screen.
Well, an accomplished Hollywood producer invited me into the writer’s waiting room after reading Slow Burn and thinking it might make a pretty cool streaming series.
We emailed back and forth, had some video calls, and traded ideas on how to turn Zed and Murphy’s story into what could have been the best television series since Gilligan’s Island.
Alas, the silicon goddesses at the pinnacle of all Hollywood decision-making failed to appreciate the marketability or whatever of our ideas. So, the TV series slipped out of the Land of Giddy Aspiration and into the swamp of Maybe One Day.
I got booted from my desk in the writer’s waiting room and returned to my home in Colorado. Just as a side note, too many writers don’t take daily showers, and most of them talk to themselves, so…being back home is nice.
On the bright side of the experience, Mr. Hollywood suggested that I develop some of the side characters, especially a villain named Mark, who Zed often referred to as Fu***ng Mark.
I loved the idea, and that’s when Slow Burn 11, Mark’s Damnation, was born.
Mark’s story begins right back where Slow Burn 1 did, at the beginning of the apocalypse. It’s going to run through four books. This book comes out on October 1st. The next book is written, is already recorded in audio and is slated for November 1st. I’m working on the third book in Mark’s story now.
After ten books of Zed and Murphy, I know seeing that Slow Burn 11 is about some as***le named Mark might be a bit of a disappointment. I get that. But please do give this one a chance. I think you’ll find Mark to be a very interesting character and a fun character to read about. I sure enjoyed writing him.
