Water Taxi Takes the Pompano Beach Chamber for a Ride

What good timing! In between all the rain yesterday, the sunny window of opportunity happened just before sunset, cooperating for the chartered Water Taxi cruise for Pompano Chamber of Commerce Board, Beacon and Trustee members. The open bar and delicious bites were enjoyed by Chamber passengers as everyone networked in a relaxing setting on the water from 5:30-7:30pm. And as soon as the Taxi returned to dock at the Sands Harbor Hotel & Resort, the rain began again. Just made it for a perfect Chamber evening. Do you know the Shining Stars in Pompano Beach? The Greater Pompano Beach Chamber of Commerce recognized a dozen of them at the Shining Stars Awards Luncheon last week with deserving awards for givers to the community. The event was a warm gathering at the Marriott in Pompano Beach celebrating leaders in business, government, nonprofits and volunteers, each introduced via video interviews so attendees could appreciate the contributions of these shining lights in the community. Do you know what’s up with the confusing Florida property amendment that will appear on the November ballot for a vote? The Pompano Beach Chamber of Commerce hosted a Board & Trustee Luncheon yesterday at the Oceanic restaurant with two dynamic keynote speakers who know all about it and clarified how the amendment will affect Broward County property owners and renters. Marty Kiar, Broward County Property Appraiser, broke down the issue and problems with detailed charts; and Christine Hunschofsky, Florida State House of Representative, detailed how the amendment is confusing and misleading to voters the way it was written.

A lawsuit was filed to rewrite the amendment and sure enough, the Sun-Sentinel just reported breaking news that the FL Attorney General rewrote the tax amendment passed by the Legislature for the November ballot after a judge ruled that it was misleading, “more akin to a political slogan.” The keynote speakers made for an engaging and timely luncheon that ran a half hour overtime. Have you seen a live drone show? Delray Beach held one Wednesday night downtown with the 250 anniversary theme featuring 1,000 drones in a 17-minute show of changing patriotic scenes. It began with drones forming a QR code in the sky to scan on our phones to access the audio portion. That alone was impressive. The drones morphing into different scenes was a hit. Although you can watch these drone shows on the Internet, it’s more exciting in person.

After 17 minutes, the drones fly back to their “home” where they were set up and programmed (the tennis center) before their 20-minute charge runs out.

Happy Father’s Day: A Personal Note
This Father’s Day post is dedicated to my husband, Ivan Robert Ladizinsky, who passed away in March.

For 49 years, we were mostly together; either dating, living together, married, divorced, friends, roommates and finally re-married. Friendship and love endured over the years regardless of how our fluid partnership was defined. I was a devoted wife and caregiver during his final four years, committed to keeping him comfortable and minimizing his suffering from medical complications. He never complained, was just appreciative and sweet-tempered till his last breath.

Ivan was a broadcast pioneer with a distinguished career in radio, television and promotion/advertising. He was known in the industry as a creative genius with a dry sense of humor and a dynamic presence. He enjoyed lifelong friendships with college buddies, colleagues and the people he hired who advanced in their careers with his guidance. He loved and took great pride in his four children from two previous marriages and two grandchildren--all on the west coast or Hawaii.

I wrote a tribute to Ivan focusing on his remarkable career that few knew about because he didn’t discuss it. I will always feel his loss.

Pompano Beach Chamber of Commerce held a Grand Opening & Ribbon Cutting Wednesday. It was a packed summer evening with Chamber members, staff, supporters and city dignitaries joined in celebration of the Chamber’s beautiful new digs—a large suite of offices at the Savoy on 100 NW 8th Street.
