I look grumpy but I'm very excited, as I was able to verify I have dropped one suit size and don my 50L blazers.. and better yet *gasp* BUTTON THEM. I still have a while to go yet, it's not exactly COMFORTABLE but just being able to put it on has made the last three months of adjusting to GLP-1 and lifestyle change worth it. Now if I can get to the 48L suits that are sitting in my closet in mothballs, I will REALLY be dancing...

Had the privilege of attending the American Manga Awards last night, a golden globe style industry event that acknowledges the hard work of companies and individuals who work on the English language versions of manga read by millions around the globe. My sincere congratulations to the nominees and winners of this year's awards

I was moved by the awarding of Studio Proteus with their version of the hall of fame induction. It is not hyperbole to say that the scene would be completely different, perhaps not even existing at all, if not for the spearheading efforts of Studio Proteus and their founder, Toren Smith (Passed in 2013, regretfully.)

Attending these events continues to feel more like visiting an alma mater - nostalgic and increasingly a stranger, stared at as if a curiosity, or blended into the background. Nonetheless I am happy to have been cobbled into the attendee list, to visit the past, see what the current generation is working on, and be pleasantly surprised by previous cohorts.

Acknowledgement to .tatara you all know why.

Sudden upgrade after boarding and settling in yielded a window seat with spectacular views after departing JFK. This was an unexpected trip to handle family matters, but the view is nice.

Weekend was over in a flash, and I am home applying muscle relaxers after a very long shower. Having been convinced by some friends, I popped by to do a quick photoshoot or two, visiting my old stomping grounds at -- and they're doing just fine, hitting their stride.

It is not without some melancholy that I saw tons of faces that I could not recognize - the long time volunteers are rotating out steadily as the next generation of otakudom take their place. It's a good thing to see, but I definitely felt like a ghost this time around.

Nonetheless, I am happy to see similar happy faces and enthusiasm, and glad to wave goodbye to another year. Retirement from the con scene seems to suit, and I wish them nothing but the best of luck for 2026.

On the same ship for 18 days, and wrapping with five days at sea. So much fog, but on the days when the fog broke the scenery truly came out to play. From seeing sea dogs to witnessing the Fata Morgana effect from horizon to horizon, the trip back did not disappoint. Working made the five days at sea fly by.

The trip first claimed the lens protectors on the X4, and then a scratch directly on the X4 lens itself. I broke my foul streak at the casino but only at the end of the trip. And I have just started a cough. With all trips there will be negatives, but they are the simple price to experience the world in new ways.

I return to a NYC flooded in storms and a world seemingly on fire, but recharged and ready to rock.

After a nap. In my own bed. Because 18 days is a lot.

Better photos when I settle in. (almost)

The last stop in Greenland introduced itself in mist and fog, with a frozen cruise amongst glaciers and waterfalls, making way to a long hike. 17k steps, 60 flights equivalent of elevation changes up and down, sweeping vistas, and nigh useless legs later and I say goodbye to Nuuk and Greenland in general.

Sweep to the last two videos to catch babbling brooks muted by nature, and my dozens of new friends...

Today was a trip to Paamiut, where the fog made it look like we were sending our tenders out into nothingness... The day cleared up, and the small town was a good stretch before we got back and went BACK into the fog.

Our meandering path has sent us zigging and zagging around, north then south then north then south then north again, avoiding the storm system.

What was originally meant to be a straight line from port to port from the southern tip of Greenland up the south west has turned into a meandering path that would give anyone a dizzy spell. That being said hats off to the Captain (and the Ice Captains) on the for adjusting the port of call list repeatedly to give us the best possible experience.

As such this trip so far hasn't been the flashiest of experiences, but this ship definitely has a soul. It is definitely growing on me.

Also, some meals, some decent enough cellphone pics scattered across the sea days, the unplanned trip into Nuuk's fjord for a scenic cruise day, and taking a hot tub dip in 40 degree weather before formal night.

Tomorrow, hopefully back on land for a small town of 1000 or so people!

Some of the nicer photos from the mirrorless, and the closest we could get to Nanortalik. Unfortunately, the storm enveloping Nanortalik and southern Greenland necessitated skipping the stop I was expecting to ride among the glaciers.

Such is the risk of cruising, ports get cancelled. C'est la vie!

Dates are blurring, as the sun never truly sets fully this far north... My phone has gotten confused, some photos are going to be way out of order. Oops.

wake tf up. Shots. Get the shot.

6am alarm. Just early enough to catch us sailing into Qaqortoq. See someone's post, stumble out of bed and run upstairs in pajamas. Done? Good. Coffee + pizza buns and stumble back to cabin. Back to bed for a nap, no rush to get out onto island because. Oooofta. Sleep now.
