Rod Lamkey Photography

Rod Lamkey Photography Wedding Photography/News Photography Photography, particularly photojournalism, is my biggest passion in life.

For many years I have been lucky to have worked as a photojournalist for great newspapers and photography agencies, making a living with something I love to do. My office is the road, and the only predictable part of the job is that it is, well... unpredictable! While on assignment, on any given day I could be covering professional sports in DC, working a feature story about a certain personality,

covering stories throughout the US and overseas, or even strolling within the halls of Capitol Hill and the White House to document our nation's political activities. There are lots of things I enjoy about my profession, having had not only the privilege to be in the front row seat to history, but also the opportunity to meet many personalities that influence our world. However, my favorite thing about what I do is being part of something special, and to witness and capture unique moments in life with a camera.

This last Saturday I had the pleasure of photographing Tara and Rich's wedding at the beautiful National Presbyterian Church in Washington DC. Tara Sakraida and Rich Parker were stunning and so kind and full of grace. The ceremony was sweet, the woman who sang for them was amazing, her voice angelic. After the ceremony I brought them outside for portraits and man was it cold...34 degrees with a wind chill of 31! They didn't mind a bit and were a lot of fun. Congratulations you two and thank you for having me as your photographer. Thanks too, to my friend Amy Deputy for the referral. Here are a few images from their wonderful day!

What could be a more beautiful backdrop for a marriage proposal than Gunpowder Falls State Park? This past Saturday, hiding just upstream on the Gunpowder River, pretending to be fly fishing, I hid behind a tree and waited to take my shot....quietly. Jake Featherstone held Ashley Sowers' hand as they made their way along a path and onto a large boulder which reached out into the river. There, among the beauty of the woods and the trout stream Jake got on one knee and proposed to his love Ashley, with their dog Cairo watching nearby. She said yes! What a sight right? Here are a few images from this wonderful day. Congratulations you two, it really is a wonderful life!

Once again I've been humbled to have been asked to do a family portrait of Gabriella Boston, her husband David Johnson and their amazing kids. Over the years I've been able to see the progressions in their lives...they grow so fast, those kids. We spent the late morning along the waterfront in Georgetown. It was brisk but nice. The session went through layers of emotions, reflective, poised and sheer laughter of chaos, as it should be right? Here is a small edit from our outing on Sunday, thanks guys for another year!
