I'm a few weeks late, but happy to announce that one of my images from my shoot with the Pulmonary Hypertension Association was chosen for AI-AP 42
Attaching some other favorites as well.

PHA wanted to highlight life with Pulmunary Hypertension and the use of cannulas to help breathing.

They found that all the stock footage of people using cannulas were in hospital beds. So they opted highlight that you can still be active even with an oxygen tank and cannula.

We set up a 2 day shoot with 6 models photographed in a number of scenes, combinations and scenarios. We had a lot of sets to work through so we shot using all constant light primarly with the litemat 2L and litemat 4. They were key to keeping on schedule.

Now, I love the litmats but they basically have a ballast and brick that each have to be moved when moving the lights. Nothing crazy but can slow you down just a bit. BUT the quality of light and how thin the panels are make them incredibly flexible on set. I really have to use these things more. So awesome.

This time last year celebrating my birthday in Alaska. I brought 2 of my film cameras and had zero intention of ever posting the photos on time. Finally sharing some favorites. A mix shots from medium format + 35 mm and a blend of film stocks. All shot by either myself or my girlfriend. From walking up frozen rivers, snowmobiling on a frozen lake, and basically ice road trucking for 3 hrs to hike up another mountain, this was a dream trip. So many more stories.

I appreciate everyone who reached out yesterday with the birthday wishes! Lets see what 2026 has in store.

Do you know your bus driver?

Portraits from a project with and .collective highlighting some of the bus drivers working the routes in Montogomery County. Some were close to retirement, others were in their first few years of service.

As someone who grew up on public transportation, this was a really interesting shoot.

This was a 2 light set up. 1 profoto B1 shooting bare bulb through the front window directly at the subject (the window tint was a lot stronger than I realized). The second B1 paired with a large softlighter was positioned behind me for some fill.

Shooting from the opening of the bus door, you're very limited in the angles you can get, but we switched it up as much as possible with each subject.

New work with the legend

Easily one of my favorite artists in this whole area. The details, scale, and subject matter of his pieces are incredible. Do yourself a favor and check his work out.

It was an interesting day. We brought a ton of gear to G Packs studio. Had to walk it up like 7 flights of stairs lol so after a quick break to catch our breath, we went in.

The goal was to blend the clean environmental portraiture I often do for clients with the gritty dramatic approach I take to personal projects.

So we started with clean portraits of him surrounded by his art then kept dialing it up with each new set up.

Backstory: My very first job out of college was at a headshot studio in DC. I was the only employee. Eventually, my boss hired 1 intern to help out, and almost 10 years later, that intern is now working as a creative director in the city.

So shout out to again for conceptualizing and pulling this together.

Interior designer Lorna Gross in her Bethesda, MD office.

Had a lot of fun with these. You'd be surprised how often I shoot in offices or houses with bare white walls. It's the worst case scenario. But after walking into Lornas office and seeing all the art and various textures on the walls, I knew we were going to get some great images.

This was a 2 light set up with just a little bit of the sun peeking in through the blinds on camera left. The last shot was actually a missfire. My fill light didn't fire which made the image somewhat more dramatic but I ended up really digging it.

Chef Kevin Hsieh, owner of Bao Bei .kh, photographed in the ghost kitchen he's operating out of with 2 of his crew, Zak and Liam. Bao Bei, provides traditional Taiwanese flavors, and I happily left the shoot with plenty of food to share.

There is something about that very first shot that I really love and I can't quite put my finger on it. It's actually cropped in for IG purposes but I'm still really drawn to it. A few of these were definitely inspired by album covers, which wasn't my intent going into the shoot, but as we progressed, the team ended up loving the direction.

Photographing people in their spaces vs photographing them in studio can lead to some interesting outcomes. Shoots are never a natural situation, but the subjects can be very much at ease when they are in environment that's familiar.
