What a wild day today has been. I honestly didn't think I'd have time to take photos... but then I remembered, that this is a once or maybe twice in a lifetime event. What was I thinking. Of course. I made time. Reminder not to let life drive you, start making room for the things that matter and turn off autopilot! What a cool experience. 🌔 🌑 🌙

It was a very busy end of the year in 2023. End of the year is ALWAYS so busy and so fun. Things tend to slow down in the first couple of months but things for my family just keep on going. So, I've been away from social media for a bit.

However, I had to come back in spring to share this session. It meant so much to me to photograph this mom and daughter who came all the way from the west coast to keep a promise. The mama here has traveled all over the U.S. She grew up visiting the capitals of most states, but she had not been to the capital of our United States. J, her daughter, set up a week-long trip to view the beauty of our nation's capital, take in all the best sites and enjoy an early spring.

This session was particularly special to me because I could see the love they have for each other. Sometimes, when we travel it's easy to forget the reason why we are taking that time away. At the end of the day, it's about spending time with the people you love. These to beautiful humans were incredibly fun and easy to work with. So happy just to enjoy time with one another. This is what life is really about. Enjoying the people you love. Every moment counts.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so I wanted to take a moment to pay tribute to an amazing teacher of mine who we lost too soon. Mrs. Dawn Moulen was my junior year English teacher and my senior year yearbook advisor. She knew my shy nature and encouraged me to develop my photography skills. I ultimately tried out and was picked to join the yearbook staff as a photographer, which is how my love for documentary photography started.

After losing touch after high school, we reconnected in 2018 thanks to social media. She learned that I started my photography business in 2005 and I found out that she had beaten cancer once, but that it had recently come back. At the end of our conversation, she said we should catch up after her treatment, but that time never came. She passed due to breast cancer in the spring of 2019.

Mrs. Moulen was a remarkable teacher who changed my life. When I graduated from high school, she gifted me with a photograph by Ansel Adams, the master landscape photographer. It's priceless to me. No matter where I've been, that photo always hangs above my desk to remind me that she believed in me. The possibilities are endless when someone believes in you. She wrote in my yearbook that she had picked me to mentor because she wanted to surround herself with good people.

I think of her so often and wish so much that I had had a chance to see her. I found out that Mrs. Moulen didn’t only change my life. She changed hundreds of lives as a teacher and mentor. I ask you to go get your yearly mammogram if you haven’t already. Early detection is key. You are seen and loved!

As Hispanic Heritage Month comes to a close, I wanted to share the story behind my name "Nellamor" and the deep connection it has with my passion for my heritage, my photography, and my family. On my parent's first date, they came across a beautiful doll in a shop. The doll's name was "Nella," which became the first of many gifts my father would give my mom.
While my mom was delivering me in the hospital room, things went awry and they almost lost me. My father combined the doll's name, "Nella" with the Spanish word "amor," meaning "love," and named me "Nellamor."

So, when I named my company "Nellamor," it was more than just a business decision. It was a tribute to my my parents, my heritage, a celebration of my passion for capturing moments in time, and an ode to the love story that ignited my life and career. It's who I am. My name is were my roots begin. These two love birds are my parents. They are everything to me. I hope I'm making them proud.

This Hispanic Heritage Month, I'm grateful for the love that has defined me, my culture and the opportunity to use photography to tell your unique stories! I am so proud of were I came from and who I am today. I hope to encourage and motive others in the hispanic community to reach for your dreams. Don't ever stop feeding your spirt, your daydreams. Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!

As a mom, I know that families don’t always feel picture-perfect. But as a photographer, I love to capture families in their everyday, perfectly imperfect lives! This documentary-style lifestyle session was such a joy to shoot. After the boys got home from school and unwound with a snack, the entire family jumped on the trampoline to let off some steam! Photographing them being silly together and enjoying each other’s company was so much fun, up to the last second when they collapsed into a heap on the trampoline in exhaustion from all the jumping around. Capturing authentic memories and relationships is why I love doing what I do!

One of coolest things I get to do year to year, is see families grow. I get to see children come into their own. There is nothing like hearing little ones learn new languages, come out of their shells and be brave and proud of themselves. And my job is to make sure those things are seen in their family portraits.

I've seen this family grow... from new homes, to more little bundles of joy, to new adventures and I am so elated I get to document their milestones. This was so much fun to do. Thank you "W" family for another great session!!!

Every session is so unique and special to me... but this one, this one... I am definitely a bit bias. These sweet friends have been waiting for this little one for sometime. And Little One... you are so so loved already... and by so many. I can't wait to meet you!

L & S, thank you for picking me to do this for you. The hour drive was more than worth it. What a beautiful location. Golden Hour did not disappoint. Looking forward to going back here very soon! ❤️🙏❤️

Celebrating a military family is always special and priceless. I have had the privilege to photograph promotion and retirement ceremonies at all levels. I look forward to them because each of these ceremonies is a journey for the service member and each member of their family. Each is so unique in how it got started and each stone paved creates a different chapter to a wonderful story. I talk a lot about how honored I am to be there to photograph this day. Sometimes I have a hard time using that word but it is honestly how I feel. They let me in for a few hours to try and tell this story. How lucky am I to be let into their lives.

Last week I photographed LT Col. Harte's promotion ceremony at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian. What a gorgeous venue. Perfect for the occasion and the staff were wonderful to work with. Congratulations to the entire Harte family on this milestone in their military story!
