Logs are ideal because they warm quickly, sit close to deep water for a fast escape, and provide space for multiple turtles to share the same heat source without competing.

Turtles are the most common animals I come across at Alligator River. Getting them to stay put for a photo is never easy. Most slip back into the water as soon as you stop. This group lasted just long enough for one frame.
