My heart continues to be heavy as our community experiences the loss of Maizelle Brown, an Icon in the Regional Arts Community. Sister woman you have left your foot print on our hearts. For generations to come your name will be spoken - as your paintings of the Attucks Theater, SEEVA/AFR'AM, Umoja Festival, and the Women of the WPA Botanical Gardens Project are admired. There is only one Maizelle. We Speak Your Name....

In my pr***en years, I lived in Jeffry Wilson Homes, Bismarck's sister Audrey and I were childhood friends. I visited her frequently because they lived near the playground. Often I'd hear of her big brother who had left home to join the Military; and was doing well. Years later, I would meet Ambassador Myrick and remember with pride that he was my friend's brother from "The Park." And, Yes, he did do well! But even with all his successes, great accolades, and his French speaking African wife - our beloved friend Marie Pierre- he still Came Home to Give back to Portsmouth - to Jeffry Wilson even! Sophisticated, Classy, Intelligent, World Traveler, Street wise, Humble, Generous, Moon's friend - you have done us proud. I wish every little girl and little boy from " the Park" could be blessed to have in their sights a Role Model like you! Ambassador Bismarck Myrick, We speak your name!!
