Sunday 2/22/26...This is one of those small waves that hits the shoreline on a mostly calm ocean. As the water stretches up, the wave thins...letting the light through and producing the aquamarine color. The long exposure time gives the impression of a painting.

This close-up of a wave splashing at the shore with backlighting from the sun was taken in the morning. Yes, I got wet. And yes, it was worth it. I like the "in your face" perspective and the colors...sort of makes me want to jump right in. It was displayed in the local Museum of Art.

This is from early July, 2025 on a sunny morning at the beach. Often mistaken for a painting. Straight out of the camera with no edits and no manipulation. "The Resolute Wave"...hangs in my living room.

I have been researching to find the term that accurately describes those images of mine that look like paintings...since that is the most often-asked question about them..."is that a picture, I thought it was a painting". I get this question from both photographers and non-photographers.

What I found was that this style of work was done early in the 20th century, so, I'm not the first...but I am happy to carry on the style and to know there is a style category within the world of photography that these images belong in.

Interestingly enough, I began shooting these types of images before doing the research. Life works that way sometimes.

Volunteered 3 hours this morning to help the organizers hang and tag many of the hundreds of entries into the 37th annual Art By The Sea exhibition at the local Museum of Art. A wide array of 2-D and 3-D art across many disciplines; oil, watercolor, photography, textiles, sculpture, glass, wood, and others. Some absolutely stunning pieces! (I got an inquiry on my entry from one of the security staff shortly after hanging.) 10am reception tomorrow...show is one day shorter this year - runs Sat til 5, Sun til 4.
