Happy World Quantum Day! A few years ago and I set out to the North Sea island of Helgoland, ostensibly, to make a film either about the history of quantum mechanics or about birds, no one was totally sure, but we did it, and my apologies to those who have seen it and to the field of quantum physics. The purple martin - the largest swallow in North America, the purplest in areas with loose definitions of purple, and the martinest both sides of the Missouri. I like to watch birds and this is one of my favorite to watch. If you live in their territory this is a sign to go watch some this spring you won’t be disappointed.

Some call it a shear-reared gnatsnatcher, others say it’s the “wingspan bird”, in dusty halls there’re deferential whispers in an ancient tongue, tryannus forficatus, and Texans reckon it’s their own bird-of-paradise, for my part I think it’s a dang fine hell-raisin son of a kingbird highway drifter regardless of what you call it.
