A difficult reality of running a small business that I never expected to experience:
Someone used a credit card that did not belong to them to pay for services from my business. The actual cardholder was the victim of that unauthorized use and, understandably, disputed the charges.
Unfortunately, when the chargeback happened, my business lost the money for services I had already provided. The service was rendered, the work was completed, and now I am the one left without the income I earned.
I completely understand that the cardholder was the victim in this situation. But there is another victim that often gets overlooked in situations like this: the small business that provided the service in good faith and is ultimately left absorbing the financial loss.
This has put me in a difficult position financially, and unfortunately, that loss directly affects my family. September is my middle son's birthday month, and I don't want someone else's decision to use a card that wasn't theirs to take away from his birthday.
So I'm going to do what small business owners do: work my way through it.
