We had a BLAST at yesterday’s 2nd Port of Cultures! 🌎🎉brought to you by 707 Day™ | 707 Week™ .

Vallejo really showed up for a full day of culture, community, food, music and entertainment!

From the morning workout to the Global Runway Fashion Show, Lucha Libro wrestling, Ballet Folklórico, Siva Samoa, Tongan performances, martial arts and so much more, there was something happening ALL DAY. 🙌🏽

You could even test drive a Tesla 🚗⚡️ and learn and play chess with the The Black Men’s Chess League Mens Chess League! ♟️🙌🏽

And can we talk about the FOOD?! 🤤🌮🍜🥟 An entire food court filled with different cultural foods gave everyone a chance to eat their way around the world without leaving Vallejo.

Then we kept the energy going with 707 Live Vs., singers, rappers, R&B vs. battles, rap battles and $707 CASH PRIZES! 💰🎤🔥

We closed out the night with Jade and Red Lotus and turned Port of Cultures into a whole DAY & NIGHT PARTY! 💃🏽🕺🏽

Thank you to everyone who came out, performed, competed, cooked, supported the vendors and celebrated all the different cultures that make our community so special. ❤️🌎

Tried Kancha Ko Bhancha aka Nepali Bites aka Nepali Bites 🇳🇵🥟 and of course I had to invite my picky friend from SJ’s Drippy Lemonade 🍋💚 to try it with me 😂

We tried them at Vallejo’s Port of Cultures event hosted by 707 Day™ | 707 Week™ , which had tons of vendors with food from all over the world.

We tried the chicken chow mein, fried momos, and a samosa.

The chow mein had a really good flavor! The chicken was okay, but those fried momos were definitely a hit. 😋

But the biggest surprise was the samosa! Neither one of us thought we were going to like it because of the peas 😂 but it was SO flavorful with a little kick. Then you dip it in the sauce and it completely changes the flavor. 🔥 We were not expecting that one!

If you’ve never tried Nepali food or haven’t checked them out yet, definitely give them a try for yourself!

My four year old LOVES helping in the kitchen, and she’s already decided she wants to be a chef. She’s also my picky eater, but somehow, if you wrap just about any protein in a tortilla, she’ll eat it. 😂 So here we are!

I can’t wait to start making fresh tortillas with her, just like I used to make them with my abuelita and with my mom when I was little. It’s crazy how something as simple as making tortillas can bring back so many memories, and now I get to pass those same moments down to her. ❤️

Friday night and I was NOT cooking!

So we picked up cenarios_fairfield and somehow ended up ordering damn near the whole menu.

We got all the pizzas in a small, so we could try a few different ones:

🍕 Superrrific – pepperoni, Italian sausage, mushrooms, onions and bell peppers.

🍕 Chicken Garlic – white sauce, chicken, roasted red peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms and green onions.

🍕 Chicken Tikka Masala – this one was different! Tikka masala, chipotle sauce, chicken, bell peppers, cilantro and onions.

We also got spaghetti, chicken Alfredo and two flavors of wings, Saucy Lemon Pepper and Sweet Chili.

The pizzas were all really good. The spaghetti was just a good, simple spaghetti, nothing too crazy. But that Alfredo?! They did NOT hold back on the sauce and I'm not complaining because I hate a dry Alfredo.

But listen... that cinnamon bread with the frosting and Dulce de Leche ice cream?! SO freaking good. That was a great treat we didn't know we needed

And all of this fed 6 people, so Friday night dinner was handled!

Am I the ONLY one in Vallejo who thought this pharmacy downtown wasn’t a real pharmacy?! 😂😂😂

I really thought they just left the signs and everything up from when they filmed 13 Reasons Why. Tell me why this pharmacy has been here for 11 YEARS?! 😭 Shame on me for never actually walking inside!

Now I’m about to start walking into all the buildings downtown that I thought weren’t real. 😂

But seriously, I’m amazed at how convenient this pharmacy is! It’s right downtown, so you can stop in and pick up your prescription while you’re out and about, or swing by while checking out the Farmers Market on Saturdays.

It’s crazy how you can live somewhere for SO long and still discover things you never knew existed right in your own city.

Yes, I know…it’s just a pharmacy…but y’all, I REALLY THOUGHT IT WAS FAKE. 😂😂😂

Another Vallejo discovery unlocked (At least for myself 😂). 📍

🍷🍇Staycations in Napa, CA RiverPointe Napa Valley

We truly loved our stay at RiverPointe Napa Valley! This little hidden gem gave us exactly what we needed, a relaxing family staycation without feeling like we had to constantly be on the go.

Our cottage was cute, simple, and had everything we needed for the weekend. Having a kitchen made it feel like we were camping… but comfortable. Then it hit me! we were basically glamping in Napa! The one-bedroom units even come with a full kitchen, including a refrigerator, stovetop, microwave, pots and pans.

There are BBQ grills around the property, so we grilled, cooked in our cottage, and just enjoyed slowing down. Even the basic cable ended up being a plus. At first I was like, “Ugh, no Netflix?” But honestly, we didn’t need it. It forced us to unplug a little and actually enjoy our time together.

The kids got to run around outside, go on walks, hear crickets for the first time , swim in the pool with their cousins, stay up late, and end the night watching TV.

And my husband? He was HAPPY because he got to grab his fishing pole and fish right along the Napa River. 🎣

Between the river walks, BBQ, pool time, cooking together, late nights and just being outside, it was such a simple but GOOD weekend.

After the kids starting school and us coming off a long work week, this was exactly the reset our family needed.

Sometimes you don’t need a packed itinerary or an expensive vacation. Give us a cottage, a grill, some water, family and somewhere for the kids to play and we’re good.

Definitely adding RiverPointe Napa Valley to our list of family-friendly Napa staycation spots. It’s right along the Napa River and just minutes from Downtown Napa.

Finally made it to Wasabi Udon & Katsu Bar , CA for a little mother-daughter lunch, and they did their thing with this place!

I’ve actually been to this location when it was a completely different restaurant, so seeing the transformation seriously blew my mind. The decor, the vibe, the whole space is so nice.

Of course, we came to EAT.

We started with the cutest Sashimi Sampler Box. The chef’s choice for the day was Maguro, Sake, Escolar, Hamachi and Albacore, served with some pickled wasabi. Everything was fresh and beautifully presented.

Then came the rolls:

Godzilla Roll — spicy tuna and cream cheese, topped with spicy mayo, unagi sauce and garlic cream.

Sunset Roll — apple, mango and spicy salmon, topped with escolar, crunch, sweet chili and garlic cream. I LOVED the apple and mango in this roll! It gave it such a refreshing flavor.

Yakuza Roll — spicy tuna and panko shrimp, topped with tuna, albacore, avocado, kohi sauce, incredible sauce, unagi sauce, tobiko, green onion and microgreens. They torched the top, and that extra charred flavor really took this roll up another level.

We also tried their Soy Garlic Chicken, and it was pretty good too! A nice little break in between all that sushi.

But the surprise of the day was that Tonkotsu Udon!!!

My daughter is usually the noodle girl, but BABY…I was tearing that udon up. 😂 I loved all the rolls and sashimi, but that udon stole the whole lunch for me. By far one of the BEST udon bowls I’ve had.

I already know where I’m getting my udon from now on…and obviously I’m grabbing some sushi while I’m there too.
