I love Photoshop lol.

Another before and after, this time inspired by the colors and textures of 120 medium format film.

As someone who loves film but doesn’t shoot it professionally, this feels like the best of both worlds. Digital gives me the freedom to experiment, and I’ve been loving the process of bringing that nostalgic, film-inspired feeling into my wedding work.

What do y’all think? Could I fool you into thinking this was shot on film? 👀

P.S. Yes, that’s an actual baby deer at Jamall and Tanya’s wedding lol. 🦌

Another before and after because I’m pretty proud of this one. 🥹

I’ve been spending a lot of time learning how to emulate film digitally. Not relying on presets, but actually understanding how every slider in Lightroom and Photoshop works together to recreate those subtle characteristics of film.

This one was inspired by Kodak Portra 400/800.

If you’re wondering, “Jesse, if you love film so much, why don’t you just shoot film?”

Truth is, I do! But at weddings, I only shoot Polaroids. I have so much admiration for photographers who can document an entire wedding on film, but I’m not quite there yet.

I also love the freedom digital gives me. My shooting style is a little messy, and I’m not shy about my shutter count. Those in-between moments are often my favorite.

My goal is to eventually perfect this process enough to include film-inspired edits in my final wedding galleries, alongside my usual work so when I do include actual film, I can be confident that my digitals will match the film stock well enough!

Still experimenting, still learning, but getting closer every day.

Two boys, two pumpkins, and a camera. 🎃

No elaborate production. No perfect outfits. Just an ordinary night we decided to make a little less ordinary.

I think that’s what I love most about photography. Sometimes the pictures that mean the most aren’t the ones where everything looks perfect.

They’re the ones that remind you who you were, who you loved, and how it all felt before you knew you’d miss that exact moment.

Take the silly photos. Make the memories. Give yourselves something to look back on.

There really wasn’t another wedding quite like Suzy and Jon’s.

They got ready at The Hook and Ladder Event Center, hopped on a trolley to Lyndale Peace Garden, and got married in the rain. And somehow, that wasn’t even the most romantic part.

They ended the night back at Hook and Ladder, where Jon took the stage with his band for a full concert and dedicated a song to Suzy.

Rain, live music, and a wedding that felt completely their own.

It also brought me back to the story of how my mom fell in love with my dad after watching him perform with his cover band. Maybe I’m just a sucker for a love story with a live soundtrack.
