In honor of the Glasgow Climate Summit, I'd like to share my Time Capsule Photograph from a Victoria BC Canada demonstration I attended and photographed in September 2019.
If you like the image, please feel free to share it on your page or share the link with friends.
September 27, 2019, Victoria B.C.: An estimated 20,000 people gathered on the grounds of the British Columbia Legislative Parliament Building (circa1893) beginning at 12 p.m. to culminate a week of climate awareness activities throughout Canada. The march and protest were spearheaded by Climate Strike Canada – a network of students, young people, and activists. I learned from the reporting that some students walked out of school while classes continued, and others attended the event with their teachers. Protesters held signs with slogans such as, “The world is melting.” (see detail of ice cream cone) “I bet the dinosaurs thought they had time too.” (see detail) and I read one that said “If you did your job, we’d be in school right now!” Even “Voldemort” was invoked in French no less.
I was allowed to set up my tripod just behind the stage. As the hours passed, I felt the growing energy, passion, and dedication of the thousands of folks, young and old, who turned out. I don’t know how many images I used to create this multiple. The Victoria airport is designated YYJ so the event was identified on social media and elsewhere.
