Today's storm chasing was pretty ho hum... I did find a storm cell with some good cloud structure near Table Mountain in Williamson Valley. I'll include both the color and B&W. While standing in the same spot, to the southeast was a different storm cell. It had a small slice of a rainbow, and with my lightning trigger I was able to get a small bolt with the rainbow!

I've gotten a couple DM's about lightning triggers. I am using the latest & greatest lightning trigger I've ever found. It's called a Bolt Hunter. I've tried the MIOPS and "Lightning Trigger" brands but neither comes even close to the Bolt Hunter! The MIOPS is junk. The Lightning Trigger brand is not bad, but it cannot do many of the things Bolt Hunter does. It is also the most expensive of the three. If you're interested in the Bolt Hunter I'll put a link below. It's a family-owned business.

I LOVE monsoon season in Arizona! I live for chasing the powerful storms whenever I get a chance. This one was taken at the entrance to one of the large ranches in Williamson Valley. Is it an electric Mustang?!? :)

Not ALL superheros wear capes...Some of them fly the aircraft that saves lives and property of those being threatened by wildfires! The Pocket Fire in the Sedona area has grown incredibly fast since Friday and is now over 12,000 acres. There have been many different types of aircraft fighting the fire with drops of Phos-Chek and water. Three of these planes have been making trips from the Prescott Airport to the fire, and return a short time later to refill with the retardant and do it all over again. The heroes that fly these planes don't stop until the sun starts to set.

The large jet in this group comes all the way from Australia! The New South Wales Rural Fire Service is the world's largest volunteer fire service. I don't know who the pilot of this jet is, but my guess is in their past they were either a fighter jet pilot, or a bush pilot. This pilot knows how to handle this modified Boeing 737-3H4 like it is a F-16 fighter jet! It was a thrill to watch them zipping around while saving lives. What a ride that would be!!! If you look closely at the belly you can see the orange slurry all over the back half of the jet. Look at the first photo for some more info about this amazing pilot!

The smaller jet is from the Neptune Aviation Services out of Missoula, Montana. They're the nation's largest operator of fixed-wing aerial tankers. The pilot of this jet was smooth! He lifted off and landed his jet like it was just another day at the beach.

The prop aircraft is a Lockheed C-130H Hercules from Coulson Aviation. While it's hard to compete with the hot rod 737 and its pilot, I have a soft spot in my heart for the prop planes. The crew of this plane kept pace with the two jets, making just as many trips as they did.

Thank you to all of the pilots and their crews who fly into smoke and danger to protect our communities. Your courage, skill, and unwavering commitment inspires us all. We are deeply grateful for the risks you take to keep lives, homes, and wild places safe. Also thank you to the ground crews at Prescott Airport for their tireless work to refill the planes so quickly, allowing them to make more drops. I'd love to meet these heroes and shake each one of their hands for their service!

Monsoon sunset over Thumb Butte in downtown Prescott. As the sun went down behind the clouds, they looked like they were literally flaming. Gotta love the monsoon sunsets here in Arizona!
