Somewhere along the line I became too guarded in my work and my words. In the last year especially I've been too worried about opinions and how they would impact revenue.

I don't have to be afraid anymore because what I say, in conjunction to my artwork, won't impact my family's ability to eat.

So.

You can look forward to feeling challenged as we move forward.

And if this train is headed in the wrong direction for you, well, you're more than welcome to abandon the ride.

It's Thanksgiving. I'll never not post this this holiday gem. ❤️

It was one of the best nights of our lives.

Next year I think it'll be on a tshirt.

If I designed a calendar, it would be the photo on all 12 months.

This series of photos is a love story. Scroll through and you'll see.

Enjoy,

Xoxo

I’m currently in Louisville, Kentucky. This is my first time visiting this state. One of the priority locations to visit is the memorial site for Breonna Taylor, which Google lists at Jefferson Square Park.

On the map you can see that the park is bordered by the Jail, the Courthouse, the Police headquarters and City Hall which seems like an appropriate location for a memorial of this sort.

We parked on the south side and started looking for the treasure of remembrance that we desired to see and feel.

To the West we saw a black granite obelisk with an inscription and an ‘everlasting’ flame. This must be it.

We walked over and discovered it was a memorial that had been “Dedicated to the memory of the law enforcement officers who have given their lives in the line of duty.”

Wow. Just wow.

We were speechless. What a punch in the gut.

After a few minutes of incredulous silence we pushed on looking for the memorial we’d actually come here for.

A few minutes later we found it—a bronze sign. Not a memorial; just a sign.

A sign that talks about how justice square was the location of the recent protests and was being relabeled as Injustice Square. The sign “served as an acknowledgment of the racial justice protests of 2020” where a young Black woman was “tragically killed” by Louisville police while serving a search warrant.

My eyes were huge and my mouth was not shut.

Wow. Just wow.

There’s nothing. NOTHING here that serves as an acknowledgment of sorrow, remorse or change. It uses the word tragic but then immediately discredits it by explaining that the police were doing their job and issuing a search warrant. She was what? An obstacle in the path of justice?

Gut sick.

I’ve decided that we’ll only be supporting minority owned businesses while we are here. Tomorrow I’m headed to the African American Museum with my toddler so that he can learn from a better source how the Black community matters. We’ll also be headed to the Russell Neighborhood to see a Breonna Tylor mural there and spend our money in the poorly-supported Black community of louisville.

Today’s experience sits like a pit burning through my stomach.

Buzz words make me cringe. They take a wonderful concept and exploit it until it's nothing but a vapid string of syllables echoing the halls of social media marketing.

Now, let's talk about the term inclusive. It's everywhere. It's like a checkbox

☑️ Woke

But seriously, what does it mean to be inclusive?

Its to include. Like, to be part of the gang, the team, the club.

Remember when you were a kid and you had a secret club, with a secret password, handshake and written code?

That's it. That's the club. That's inclusion.

Now, think through all of the advertisements you've seen that mention inclusion, and ask yourself-- are you part of the club? Do you know the secret hand shake?

You do here.

This afternoon I've been reviewing some works by Dorothea Lange and as I was studying images I came across two that looked similar to a couple of Polaroids that are stashed on my headboard.

I started to think about how many themes transcend time.

This particular collection of images, curated by , focuses on images of people sleeping throughout the day. It was one of Lange's more common themes.

"Day sleeping resonates as a symbol of respite. Oblivion. An inverted world. A strange place where the waking world becomes dreamlike and strange."

It's a perfect Fall Saturday. It's a perfect day for day sleeping. It's a perfect day for dreaming and floating between worlds.

It's been a weird recovery from losing my primary Instagram. It's sick to say but it feels like something is missing as I pick up my phone throughout the day.

There was some actual connection to the things (whatever those may be) derived from that account.

This whole thought brings a rancid look to my face. I hate social media, the dependency and the faux sense that we have any control over anything.

Perhaps I'd feel differently if I sold something like Tupperware or vacuums. And if I was a clever video creator who was dedicated to the cause, then social media might like me better, right? 😉

I guess I don't care that much.

Until then, I'm still trying to find the new me in this phone.

Ugh.
