When was the last time you looked at a photo of yourself and genuinely loved it?

We take pictures all the time. Selfies, snapshots, group photos… but how many of those are photos you’re actually excited to keep?

That’s one of the things I love about portrait photography.

A professional session gives us the opportunity to slow down and be intentional. From the lighting and angles to the posing and little details, it all comes together to create something different from an everyday snapshot.

And you don’t need modeling experience or even know what to do in front of the camera. That’s part of my job.

You don’t need to know how to pose before your photoshoot.

But if you want to do a little prep beforehand, start simple: spend some time in front of a mirror.

Try different expressions. Shift your weight. Turn your shoulders. Move your hands around. Pay attention to what feels natural and what feels like you.

The goal isn’t to memorize poses or show up knowing exactly what to do—that’s still my job. It’s just a simple way to become a little more familiar with how you move before stepping in front of the camera.

Confidence doesn’t always arrive before the session.

Sometimes it begins while planning a look that already feels like you. Sometimes it grows while an idea starts becoming real. And sometimes it happens afterward—when you finally see the finished photographs.
