I’m always drawn to interesting doors, especially ones tucked away in beautiful gardens and surrounded by character. This little green door, framed by stone, greenery, and dappled sunlight, immediately caught my eye. I think there’s something fascinating about the stories, history, and personality that can be captured in a single doorway.

Beautiful flowers catching the morning light, a warm wooden table, and a good book waiting to be opened.

Sometimes the best moments aren’t planned or elaborate. They’re found in the quiet, everyday details that make a house feel like home. A little beauty, a little inspiration, and a few peaceful moments to simply slow down and enjoy them.

Happy World Photography Day!

Photography gives us a reason to slow down, notice the light, and capture the beauty in the moments around us. Sometimes the most meaningful images are found in the quiet, unexpected places.

Here’s to chasing the light, finding new perspectives, and always having a camera ready!

I love it when an action shot at a family photoshoot comes together perfectly, and this one absolutely did! The best part? This was the first take. No warm-up, no second chances, no “let’s try that again.” Just a split-second of pure fun captured at exactly the right moment. And those expressions on Matt and Owen’s faces are priceless. You can almost feel the excitement, trust, and sheer joy in this image.

These are the moments I love most about family photography, the unexpected ones that turn into the photographs you remember forever. Sometimes the first take really is the best take.

A little piece of Provence right here in Wisconsin.

These beautiful rows of lavender seemed to stretch endlessly into the distance, creating a perfect combination of color, texture, and leading lines. It’s easy to forget just how beautiful Wisconsin can be in the summer. You don’t always have to travel far to find a landscape that feels completely different from home.

There are some things you keep not because of what they are, but because of the memories they carry. This dragon is one of those things.

When my wife was a young girl, her class created this enormous dragon as an art project. When the project was finished, she was thrilled and incredibly proud when she won it and got to take it home. She kept it for many years, eventually bringing it into her own classroom when she became an elementary school teacher.

After all those years, we recently decided it was finally time to let the dragon go. But before it disappeared forever, I wanted to preserve a little piece of its story for ours.
I rolled out all 30 feet of it across our lawn and sent the drone up for a top down photograph. Thirty feet long. Three feet wide. Decades of memories.

It may be time to let the dragon go, but now we’ll always have a photograph of it, and the story of a little girl who won it and got to bring it home.

I love how photography can be about more than simply documenting what’s in front of you. Sometimes it’s about noticing a moment, seeing the humor in it, and capturing the personality of a scene.

Golden hour hits differently when you’re standing in the middle of a field of sunflowers. The warm light breaking through the clouds illuminated row after row of blooms, creating an incredible sea of yellow stretching all the way to the horizon. The dramatic sky only added to the scene. This was one of those moments when you simply stop, take it all in, and reach for the camera.
