My daughter graduated from college this week.

I sat in that ceremony trying not to fall apart — and failed completely.

And here’s the thing. I don’t have newborn photos of her. It wasn’t something people did 20 years ago the way they do now.

I have a handful of snapshots. A few blurry moments on film. But not the kind of images that take you back to exactly how she felt in your arms.

I’ve thought about that a lot this week as I go through old photos to create a slideshow for her graduation party. And I’m definitely feeling like I’m missing a huge piece of my memory of her as a baby.

This is one of the reasons I photograph newborns. I don’t want other moms to sit in a graduation ceremony someday wishing they had done it differently.

This is my Kendall. 💕

I flew up to Seattle this weekend to take her senior photos. She is graduating from the University of Washington in June and I could not be prouder of the young woman she has become.

One of her majors is dance, and she has been wanting to do a conceptual shoot like this for a while. This was taken this morning in the very dance room she has spent so much time in over the last 4 years.

It’s definitely a departure from my normal shooting style, but oh how this filled my soul 💕

So many more images to come! 🥰
