This time of year we hear about "false fall" when we get a few days of fall-like weather before a return to summer heat. I am going out on a limb to say this year we are getting fall early. Data has been notoriously too warm all summer, and despite some signs of a mid-month warm-up, I believe we will end up on the cooler side. Not sure I am ready to guarantee no more 90 degree temps for Tulsa in 2025, but we are getting real close. Also, this past week I have started seeing the first signs of fall colors on a few trees. While most everything is still green, there are some clear signs that the fall colors are probably going to come early this year. Because of the cool summer and abundant rains, tree stress appears to be minimal, so we should be in for vibrant foliage this season. Enjoy!

Heavy rains continue across eastern Oklahoma with flash flooding possible. Radar estimates show 4-9 inches of rain has fallen around the Vinita area. Remember: TURN AROUND! DON'T DROWN!

Additional thunderstorms are expected to develop across southeast Oklahoma this afternoon with a hail/wind and low tornado threat. This threat will generally be south of I-40. Rain/storms should taper off in northeast Oklahoma as we go through the afternoon.

OTD in 1911 a series of tornadoes ravaged parts of North Dakota into Manitoba Canada. An F4 tornado narrowly missed the town of Antler, ND. These pics are among the earliest photos of tornadoes ever taken. The church in the photo is still standing in town to this day. I recently touched up and re-scanned my drawing of the Antler tornado.

If you are in the Tulsa metro right now, go outside and check out the HCR's (horizontal convective rolls or transverse cloud bands) in the sky. These horizontal roll-like clouds form when a humid/unstable airmass near the ground exists with a cap over the top of it. Low-level wind shear helps sculpt the cumulus clouds into long horizontal tubes. They show up quite nicely on visible satellite imagery.

Watching an incoming line of severe thunderstorms that will pose a significant risk for damaging winds, and possibly QLCS spin up tornadoes. The dashed line indicates and outflow boundary across Tulsa county that may provide focus for an enhanced corridor of damaging wind and QLCS tornado potential over the next 1-2 hours as this line pushes east across the Tulsa metro. Threat will transition to heavy rains and flooding behind the leading edge wind threat.
