Emery + Matt

These two are the absolute epitome of resilience. And the perfect example that as long as at the end of the day, you get to marry the love of your life, everything else will come together.

From a backyard homestead wedding to a last-minute decision to move to a country club — a decision made at 3:30 PM Friday for a 4:30 PM Saturday wedding — everyone worked together seamlessly to get everything situated and redecorated. I was in awe of the day, these two, and their beautiful families and friends! The venue stepped up, the DJ was incredible, the food truck pivoted to the new location, and family and friends came from ALL OVER to celebrate these two. And the bride and groom?! Absolutely INCREDIBLE. The sweetest, most genuine people, who made me feel so incredibly welcomed.

After one full day (literally 18½ hours) complete with 549 miles of driving, photographing all the things, running entirely on Broadway musicals, ADRENALINE & PURE LOVE, what stands out to me most is this:

Two incredible people got married. Timelines may have gone to the wayside, things may not have been photographed as planned but, their families and friends showed up for them in the biggest ways, with nothing but love and support. Their sweet dog STILL got to be part of their day. The bride's bouquet was HANDMADE by her, and it was absolutely stunning (smelled amazing too)! The father/daughter and mother/son dances reminded me why I will NEVER make it through a wedding without crying. And Grandma?! She was the LIFE of the party! What could have been an overwhelming turn of events became one of the most BEAUTIFUL celebrations of love I've ever witnessed.

Christmas + Game of Thrones + Romantasy = ?????

YUP! June 10, my girl Khalani emailed me and asked if I could call her to, "ask a few questions" about Christmas pictures...of course! But boy I was NOT prepared for what was about to happen next. The ideas and the vision she had were UNREAL! I was instantly excited and I immediately got my sister involved because this is also up her alley.

Hours of back and forth, texting, both of us location scouting and researching, Pinterest boards, "what if's" and "what about this", and even a messed up meet-up because all of the CSRA lost cellular service.....but despite all of that! The day FINALLY came. We were both counting down like kids at Christmas! Words like "homemade", "hand sewn", "DIY", and "3D PRINTED" were used 😳 I hadn't even seen all of it!

When there are multiple other people at the location you are shooting at, SEEING THE VISION HAPPEN IN REAL TIME and being excited about it??? Coming up to us and saying, "I KNOW those are going to be GOOOD!" I HAD GOOSEBUMPS and it was like 80+ outside. The amount of people complimenting how beautiful she looked too though-truly made my heart SOO happy! It was a super fun & special day - with clients turned friends.

BUT-I have to take a moment to say how pivotal Khalani & Kevin have been to me personally, as well as to my business as a whole. After being referred to me last season, we did a small Christmas shoot together, something they do every year together. The session went great despite me feeling a little awkward (introverted extrovert), but they liked the pictures. But something she said to me after receiving her gallery back was, "we both just felt really comfortable with you especially knowing how bad both of our social anxiety can be". I was stunned! Because this was something I struggled with early on, and worked so hard to not be that way, but I knew I was awkward as heck that day with them!

But her words became my mission. I want everyone around me and in front of my camera to feel loved, accepted, comfortable, seen and beautiful or handsome. I want them to see themselves the way the world does, and for them to walk away feeling CONFIDENT. I have gained much more than a client, I have gained a good friend.

So-know that these photos weren't "just another shoot". There is so much collaboration that went into this one! The sword was 3d printed and painted with - something epic way over my head. The details added on were hand picked and stunning. But in the end, everything came together for one epic photo shoot for Khalani & Kevin - 100% of the credit goes to her!!!

Thank you again for trusting me with your vision and for all the laughs along the way! You're a real one, and I'm grateful for you both!

WHEWWWW. WHAT. A. WEEKEND!! Heck-last 2 weeks!

BUT some NICOLUX official news and the real, the RAW (haha get it?), and some of the behind the scenes from this weekend 🙃😅 That weren’t necessarily meant for the light of day, but it is what it is!😆

I left my house at 8:00 AM Saturday and pulled back into my driveway (SAFELY!) at 2:30 AM SUNDAY. That’s 18½ HOURS! 😅😅😅 Could I stop and stay somewhere? Absolutely. Am I going to? Absolutely not. Where’s my true crime girlies at because IYKYK! But what DID I do when I finally got home?!

Crawled right into the trunk, to my air mattress in the back of my Expedition and went to SLEEP. Yes. In my driveway! Four + ish hours later, I finally emerged from my mobile princess suite once it stopped raining and my husband was awake to carry all of Princess Nicole’s belongings inside. 💅🏾💁🏾‍♀️ Because I was NOT unloading all that equipment myself!

But let me tell y’all something. I LOVE WHAT I DO. I love the adventure, and even the late and long days! For being a fairly introverted person, I LOVE IT ALLL!!! (It’s okay, I’ve never fit in a box not one day of my entire life).

But for real- even on the long days. Even when plans change at the very last minute or even when my camera decides it wants to have a temper tantrum mid reception🙃.. I love it! (And THAT my friends is why we keep multiple cameras WITH US and then your photos backups have backups-and THOSE backups have backups-*FOUR* backups until delivery).

SQUIRREL! But God has been SO GOOD, and I’m incredibly grateful for every opportunity to do what I love. And speaking of grateful…

The LITTLE NICOLUX UPDATE! ❤️ If you’ve noticed a mixture of throwback sessions, wedding tips, and random real-time updates from yours truly (1 am Phantom of the Opera anyone?), there’s a reason!

My wonderful assistant, Kaylen, has been helping NicoLux Photography play the content game that being an elder millennial I can’t quite grasp. But we work together to come up with posts, or themes, or I give her certain galleries and she takes the reigns to help keep me “active” by sharing some of my work while I’m out creating MORE memories! And I cannot express to you how grateful I am for her!

Between a maternity session, a couples session, a wedding in North Carolina, and a VERY unique Christmas session from last weekend (maybe 2 weekends ago?) that I STILL don’t even have words for… I have SO MUCH to share with y’all!

So just know-Sometimes you’re hearing from Kaylen. Sometimes you’re hearing from me. And sometimes you’re just getting a front-row seat to whatever chaos I’m currently living through! (2 am Maybe Wicked is more your style?)

But either way, it’s ALL NicoLux, and every single bit of it comes from a genuine love for photography and the people who trust me to capture their memories.

So if you’re seeing older sessions mixed in with current adventures, don’t worry! We’re not going backward, and it’s certainly not some stranger. We’re just trying to keep up with ALL the beautiful things happening around here and share them with you as fast as possible (ish), because it takes a village.

But because apparently I don’t know how to sit still…despite being adamant Sunday is for rest and family (usually). Since I’ve already been home, all wedding photos have been SAFELY backed up (FOUR TIMES, because I’m THAT photographer 🤓), and sneak peeks have been chosen, cried over, edited and sent to the bride & groom, and I’m getting ready to dive into editing!

I have SO many beautiful moments coming your way, and I cannot WAIT to share them.

Thank you for supporting this little business of mine, for cheering me on, and for being part of the journey. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got….some sleep to catch up on and THEN more stories to share!

It’s the little details that help tell the story of your wedding day.

So much time and thought goes into creating a wedding, and I love capturing the things you worked hard to make special. The ceremony setup, the shoes you chose, your invitations, the rings, and all the little details that bring your vision together.

These are the things you spent time choosing and creating, and they deserve to be remembered just as much as the big moments.
