Maria Burton is a New England based wedding and portrait photographer. I just love taking pictures of people. It's really that simple for me.

As a wedding & portrait photographer in New England, I am surrounded by beauty every day. The parks, homes, beaches and natural settings surrounding New England are all I need in a “studio”. Natural light is my drug. I love exploring new areas with clients and working at that famed golden hour. My style is photojournalistic, with a bit of tradition mixed in there. At weddings my goal is to be unob

trusive, yet ready to grab that perfect shot. Family portraits are all about having fun and capturing WHO you are. It brings me incredible joy to be able to produce something for someone that won't fade with time.

There is something so special about the families who make the same trip every summer.

This sweet crew trades Texas for the New England coast each year, gathering in their happy place in Mattapoisett—where the days are slower, cousins run barefoot, grandparents get extra hugs, and the memories seem to multiply with every passing season. (Although they definitely brought the Texas heat with them that day. ☀️🥵)

Extended family sessions are some of my favorite stories to tell.

They’re beautifully imperfect. There are lots of personalities, lots of movement, lots of opinions about where to stand, little ones wandering off, someone making everyone laugh, grandparents quietly taking it all in… and somewhere in that beautiful mess are the moments you’ll treasure most.

Because years from now, these photographs won’t just remind you what everyone looked like. They’ll remind you what it FELT like to be together.

If your family has a place you return to every summer—a beach house, grandparents’ backyard, or favorite vacation spot—consider documenting it. Those places become part of your family’s story, too. 🤍

Some milestones deserve a little extra celebrating. 🤍

Alessandro’s first birthday session was the sweetest combination of everything I love to photograph—timeless heirloom portraits, playful first birthday portraits, a cake smash, and a few family photos to remember this season of life.

He was all smiles from the moment he arrived, making my job far too easy. We captured those classic portraits that will hang on the walls for decades, let him dig into his birthday cake (with plenty of frosting-covered grins), and finished with a handful of family photos because these milestones deserve proof of mom and dad too!

There are Nantucket baskets and then there are Nantucket bassinets!!!

Lisbet is the luckiest girl on the block - her mom wove this STUNNING bassinet and it was a show stopper for her nursery and newborn session last month 🎀

Kayla + Geoff | July 17, 2026 | Blithewold Mansion

Kayla and Geoff’s story began right here in Rhode Island at Brown University and has carried them through medical school, residency, and building a life together in Colorado. Watching them come back to New England to celebrate where it all started felt especially meaningful.

They envisioned an elegant garden party at Blithewold Mansion, and every detail reflected it perfectly—soft blue and white touches, lush florals, glowing candlelight, the sweetest first dance, an unforgettable sunset, and yes… the iconic Del’s 🍋stand that had everyone smiling.

But what I’ll remember most wasn’t a single detail. It was the feeling.

The warmth between their families. The friendships they’ve built over every season of life. The way every guest showed up with so much joy, love, and genuine excitement to celebrate these two. It was impossible not to feel the incredible community they’ve created around them.

Kayla and Geoff, your kindness is magnetic, and it’s easy to see why you’re so deeply loved. What an honor it was to document the beginning of your next chapter. 🤍

Last night at the Ida Lewis Yacht Club was the perfect kickoff to Kayla and Geoffs wedding weekend. ✨

Over the last few years, I’ve found myself photographing more rehearsal dinners and welcome parties, and they’ve quietly become one of my favorite parts of a wedding weekend.

The energy is different. It’s full of anticipation. Hugs from friends who haven’t seen each other in years, families meeting for the first time, happy tears, heartfelt toasts, and everyone dressed up—but just a little more relaxed than the wedding day.

As a photographer, it’s such a gift. I get to observe the connections between the couple and the people they love most, learn the family dynamics, and understand who means the world to them before the wedding day even begins. It helps me tell a more thoughtful, complete story of the entire celebration.

I already know today is going to be something special, and I can’t wait to celebrate Kayla and Geoff at Blithewold Mansion. 🤍
