Ending on a 'Good Note'
Gotta call call yesterday bout 830am, my friend Steve said he was gonna fish that afternoon about 12@ Lighthouse Lakes outside Aransas Pass...light winds outta the North, he had some special kinda timing...Wednesday was my only day off this week...
Been a while since I had wet a hook, but noonish was just right for this ol guy, them dark thirty launches are a thing of the pass for me..
I'm so outta the loop, got no idea about the tides, water temps, duck season, wader weather, etc...ugh...Not gonna lie, was a lil bit nervous...
Crossed the channel and headed toward the flats at the crack of 12:15ish…Tides low, not whole lotta activity/life…paddled 2miles without a single bump blindcasting…not a single target to cast to…Mentioned to Steve, ”We’re gonna have to figure them out”…Which meant we needed to keep paddling/looking…Damn sure wasn’t gonna load up and go somewhere else…
We ended up goin even skinnier…less than shin deep…sure nuff…WAKES/TARGETS!
MAGIC afternoon…never been one to keep count, but probably brought 10+ to hand between us both….Steve probably had half that number come off, unbuttoned mid-fight…including the last fish right before we decided to head in, that fish actually broke the hook…Personally didn’t feel good about that…and as fate would have it, he had another shot as we were paddled toward the truck…he got it done, it happened to be his biggest of the afternoon…It subsequently was released healthy, as my friend does more often that not….
Hence…The afternoon ‘Ended on a Good Note’
While I’m on the subject of ‘Ending’…this will be the final post on this particular page…fixing delete it…I don’t get out there as much as I used to…and see no use in keeping it, so I’m ending/deleting this page on a ‘Good Note’ as well…a phenomenal afternoon outside Aransas Pass…

Been a while...

Appreciate those who continue to follow this page...Couple of things changed at the J.O.B. and I may actually get more time on the water soon...

Anywho, hit the Lighthouse Lakes outta Aransas earlier this week...tides high, forecast had winds below 10mph(correct till about 845)...healthy/challenging paddle on the way in...quite a few blowups on topwaters, not a single drag puller for myself,

Augie(pictured) had more alot more action than I, he def retrieves with a different rhythm than I, may have made a difference...but his retrieve seems like work to me, but I see it through 65yo eyes...

Again...appreciate you followers...have fun, be safe, its only fishing...

My very first cast this morning in low light conditions, BOOM...slot redfish on a paddle tail...Augie and I both debated whether that was a good sign or a jinx...

Turned out to be a good sign, we both had a lotsa opportunities...a couple just plain got off, and someone broke one off "Bill Dancing" the fish...my bad....

TPWD was conducting a creel survey as we pulled in off the water. One of the questions he asked was, "From 1-10, how would rate your experience"....Both of us responded with 10's...

All we wanted was a chance, and we certainly had that...

It was a good morning...

Been playing with these rotomolded polyethylene contraptions well over 15 years.

Bought a few, traded a few, been given a few…fished outta them, played outta ‘em…and loaned ‘em out to friends…
Never retired one till this week…
This one was a Wilderness Systems Tarpon 160, new in 2012, long, narrow, and fast…paddle kayak, I was the motor…dinosaur in the kayak world nowadays…matter of fact the Tarpon 160 is no longer even produced by the manufacturer.

Myself and a buncha friends enjoyed lotsa of good times in this particular yak.

Given the history, a buddy suggested it would be kinda like putting a dog down…yknow, to chop it up…kinda, but not really…it was a tool, a plastic tool I used, and some would say abused…I admit it, I cut no slack with my tools…

Thanks for the memories my 2012 sand colored Tarpon 160, you provided lotsa smiles, a buncha memories…

It was a good run…
