“Fleeting Flutters” is up at Encino Terrace Gallery! Here are some pics if you can’t make it out to see it :)

Work statement:

“Fleeting Flutters” celebrates Butterflies and their relationship with the Earth and its many inhabitants.  Butterflies are crucial pollinators and need to be protected in order to maintain the balance of nature.  Land development and global warming often disrupts the butterflies habitats  during their migrations and their “overwintering” sites.

The sculptures are part of an ever changing collection of Meditation Mirrors that I create through hand papermaking.  Each one is embedded with a mirror.  In the Earth sculptures, the mirror represents the oceans.  They encompass and disrupt the face of the viewer in hopes they will contemplate their role in the earth’s survival.

The Butterfly sculptures are of species that are threatened and endangered, documented as reflectors to help us ponder the dynamics that are affecting their ability to thrive or even survive.  

Meditating with these sculptures enable the viewers to explore their relationships with the Earth and its many inhabitants.

I know I should sleep but I probably am I’m just dreaming about collecting paper to make more paper out of it.

If you don’t know me you don’t know that I use recycled materials in my Papermaking process. If you do know me you know that I want to be able to make paper out of plants! I just need that Hollander be**er! I would love to make paper out of the invasive plant life around where I live in Southern California. Not unless the grass eating fire goats are still hungry that is…

This is my big paper bin that I use to store my paper scraps. I continually collect and source reclaimed materials for me to make paper with. My friends help out a lot too, you know who you are and I love you for it!

Touching grass? How bout wet paper pulp! Imagine that between your little tootsies 😋

In all seriousness here is a tangent on handmade papers and their textures! I often find myself touching the paper that I make because the surface quality is so different than standard paper. The paper I make has a soft velvety feel, as if the paper has a million tiny hands grabbing at your fingertips as you touch it. It’s nice to know the paper wants you as much as you want the paper!
