MANHATTAN-LOOKING UP AT FREEDOM TOWER was taken on one of our many trips to NYC. No matter how many times we visit this area, it saddens us to think of the horrific day when our country was attacked by terrorist. So many lives lost. , , , , , ,

is the popular beach on Island. It is a crescent shaped strip of beach that actually measures around 6 miles. Due to the annual erosion, the beach has dwindled in length. Seven Mile Beach has been voted one of the best Beaches, year after year. It is a public beach, so if you have the energy, you can walk from one end to the other. January starts the high season and from what I hear from the locals, the beaches are bare during the summer months. Too hot and the threat of hurricanes keep tourist away. Hurricane Ivan hit the island in 2004 destroying many of the hotels along the beach. Looking at the area today, you would never know there such devastation. The area is totally rebuilt.
When you get to Grand Cayman, there is plenty to do besides sunbathing and walking the beach. There are many great restaurants from very upscale to local. Snorkeling is great right off the beach if you are not the adventurous type to go out to the reefs. Diving at shipwrecks or the reefs and many other water sports. Take a day trip and explore the island. Although driving on the left seemed like a challenge, it was fairly easy to adjust to. This image was taken on a cloudy day. , , , ,

Lake Como-Hills of Bellagio Countryside. Walking through the countryside in Italy was one of most enjoyable excursions we have taken. Bellagio was one of my favorite places when we traveled to Italy. My husband, on the other hand, enjoyed the scenes but he felt it was a little to slow paced for him. He is more of a city guy while I am more country. He enjoyed the long and sometimes challenging walks, but was ready to leave when our three days we up. , , , , , , ,

, is a lake shaped like an inverted Y. It is the third largest lake in Italy having an area of 56 sq. miles. The lake is 1300 feet deep making it the fifth deepest lake in . The bottom of the lake sits 660 feet below sea level. Lake Como area has been the retreat to many Roman aristocrats and today many famous people own houses throughout the area (no we did not see George Clooney). The lake area is well known for the many villas and gardens that have been built there over the years. It area has a very efficient ferry service linking all the towns.
During our trip, we stayed in Bellagio for three nights. Don't expect a lot of nightlife, it is quiet and relaxing. Great place to have your morning cappuccino and pastry while enjoying the lovely scenes on Lake Como.

Black Beauty in the Clouds. I am missing my butterflies this year! I am looking through my photos from the previous years when they were in abundance, picking out the images I have overlooked. During the summer months, I would sit in my sunroom and just watch these lovely creatures flutter all around my numerous butterfly bushes. Every year I look for the caterpillars on my plants, put them in one of my little pop-up tents so they can go through their transformation to butterfly stage safely. I need my pollinators to come back!
Just to point out, this is a female, having the row of white spots, then blue and then white. The females are larger than the males. The ventral side of the wings are identical in both male and female black swallowtails. , , , , , ,decor, , ,

TREES-Octopus Roots. Walking the beach is one of our favorite things to do when visiting the Cayman Islands. We spotted these interesting tree roots at Rum Point beach. Most people just walked by not noticing it, but not me. I love trees in any form. The exposed roots caught my attention, to me it looked like an octopus. I added a texture and a vignette to the photo to give it a more interesting look. To me, I feel you can find beauty in anything if you look for it. , , , , , ,

Massachusetts-Crossing the Charles River

Massachusetts-Crossing the Charles River. The Longfellow Bridge pictured here, is a steel rib arch bridge which spans the Charles River, connecting Boston's Beacon Hill area with the Kendall Square area of Cambridge, Massachusetts. The bridge, known to locals as the "salt and pepper bridge" supports travel by car, train, bike and pedestrians.

AMSTERDAM-WESTERKERK CHURCH. During a trip to Italy, my husband and I decided to fly to Amsterdam for the day, then off to Milan. I was not keen on the idea, because I had this mental picture of Amsterdam in my mind. Boy was I surprised! The canals, the architecture, the history, all was overwhelming! Definitely on our list to go back and explore this lovely city in more depth!
Amsterdam is the most populated city in the Netherlands. The official language is Dutch but of course everyone speaks English so there is no problem with communicating. Amsterdam is in the Providence of North Holland and is often referred to as the "Venice of the North" due to the number of canals, 165 ranging about 31 miles long. The four main canals are the Herengracht, Prinsengracht, Keizersgracht & Singel. Amsterdam has 1281 bridges. The Amstel River connects with some of the canals and ends in the center of the city. Because Amsterdam sits 6.6 feet below sea level, the city was prone to flooding. The canals were built to control the water flow. , , , , , ,
