Most birthday sets here jump decades. This one covers about two weeks.

July 1991, Los Angeles, Keanu Reeves at 26. Ron caught him at the Hollywood Palladium on the Bogus Journey night, still Ted “Theodore” Logan to most of the country. At the Directors Guild for Another You, the last film Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor made together, one he had no part in and turned up to anyway. And on July 10 at the Point Break premiere, where Kathryn Bigelow had already made him Johnny Utah.

Point Break opened July 12. Bogus Journey opened July 19. He was Ted Logan and Johnny Utah in the same week.

Ron worked premieres the way he worked everything, from a spot he picked himself and didn’t give up.

Keanu Reeves turns 62 today.

Sofia Rosinsky spent her childhood writing letters to actors. Some of them are on this wall. Despite being only 20 years old, Sofia has an extraordinary knowledge of the Hollywood stars of the past. In this episode of Stories Behind the Pictures, Sofia walks through Ron Galella’s photographs of the people she grew up watching, Mel Brooks and Anne Bancroft, Alec Guinness, Burgess Meredith, Gene Wilder and Elaine May. She has a story about one letter that got answered in person, and it does not end where you think it does. Two of these faces turn out to be tied to a film she’s making right now. The iconic star of films like 1975’s The Rocky Horror Picture Show, 1985’s Clue and 1996’s  Muppet Treasure Island died at the age of 80 at his home in Los Angeles, TMZ reported.

Curry was born on April 19, 1946 in Grappenhall, a village in Cheshire, England, but spent much of his early years living across England and around the world with his parents and older sister Judy due to his father’s position as a navy chaplain.

Dolly Parton, an omnipresent country music legend adored by fans for her artistry, honesty and philanthropy, has died. She was 80.

Her death was confirmed by her family Tuesday in a statement.

Dolly Rebecca Parton was born on the banks of the Little Pigeon River in Tennessee’s Great Smoky Mountains on Jan. 19, 1946. The fourth of 12 children, Parton grew up inside a two-log Appalachian cabin with a family whose musical roots went back generations.

Actress Hayden Panettiere has sadly passed today. She was 36 years old.

“It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden. She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her — and to the millions who watched her onscreen,” her father, Skip Panettiere, said in a statement.

Her father asked for privacy “as our family takes time to process this unimaginable loss.”

Martha Stewart always looked as if she had arranged the room herself.

Ron Galella photographed her across decades of New York galas and industry benefits, catching the steady composure behind the public figure.

At the Plaza Hotel in 1990 for a national pastry competition. Inside Bulgari on Valentine’s Day in 1991 for a hospital benefit. Arriving at the New York Public Library for the CFDA Fashion Awards in 2004.

Ron understood that presence is not staged. It is something a person carries into every room.

Ron caught him across three decades, always in motion, always completely unbothered by the camera.

On location in New York with Petula Clark in 1968 while filming Goodbye, Mr. Chips. At the Golden Globe Awards at the Beverly Hilton a decade later. Arriving at the Plymouth Theater for the opening of Pygmalion in 1987.

Ron understood that some actors perform for the lens, while others simply exist in front of it.

At the Pierre Hotel in November 1974, standing backstage at his showing. Lois Chiles beside him at the same collection. Four years later, under the paper lanterns at Studio 54 for the legendary O***m launch party alongside Pat Cleveland.

Vincent Pastore, known for playing mobsters in film and TV, most notably Salvatore
“Big Pussy” Bonpensiero on HBO’s The Sopranos, has died. He was 80. The veteran actor was found dead in his Bronx residence today, Aug. 1, by a neighbor after he had not been heard from for the past three days. The circumstances surrounding his death are being investigated.
