Yes, that is spelled correctly: Wwit stands for "What Was I Thinking," and I believe his mom says that at least once a day. 😆

I've known Wwit for most of his life. He started coming to agility class when he was old enough, and I've had a front row seat to his ridiculousness ever since. He is goofy, he is a blockhead, and he truly believes that he should be the only dog anyone ever pays attention to (and he'll headbutt you as a reminder)!

But, when it's time to work, what he actually wants is to make his mom happy. Even when she's not entirely sure where she's going in the ring, he will find an obstacle to try anyway.

His mom's application answer when asked why he was special: "Haha - you know why he's special!" I guess she's right, I do.

Welcome to A Life Well Loved, Wwit. It's been a joy watching you grow up. 🐾

The cover contest fundraiser for Dirty Paws Agape Haven opens later this month - keep an eye out for your chance to vote for your favorite dog in the book. I have a feeling Wwit will have opinions about your choice. 🧐

September Feature: Reggie

Reggie's a window-watcher. Birds, squirrels, whatever's out there! He absolutely needs to know, and he makes the best faces about it. 🐿️

He came to Toledo Humane as a transfer from LC4, and became his mom's best friend on September 24, 2022. That's the whole story, really: a goofy, window-watching, squirrel-monitoring dog and the person who brought him home.

That's also the story behind nearly every dog I photograph.

Reggie is part of the 2026 THS calendar, my annual project celebrating rescue pets and the families who can't imagine life without them.

Dream was adopted at 7 years old and has spent the years since being the most gracious foster host imaginable - welcoming dog after dog into her home without complaint. Her greatest joys are walks at the park and chasing birds, and she showed up to her session just as advertised: easy, calm, and a complete professional.

Weaver is a Great Dane who came home because his owner's friend had one puppy left and the price was right. He was definitely more of a challenge, but he didn't seem sorry about that fact at all - HA!

Their names are Dream and Weaver because Amy finds it funny to call for them together. As someone who drove to their session singing Dream Weaver in the car, I find it funny too! 🎤 We were sweating through our clothes by 7 AM, but we did indeed "reach the morning light."

Welcome to A Life Well Loved, Dream and Weaver. 🐾

The cover contest opens next month! Stay tuned for your chance to vote for your favorite and support Dirty Paws Agape Haven. 💜

Ryker's full name is Ryker's Smooth Criminal, earned in puppyhood by systematically redistributing his family's socks, shoes, and toys throughout the house. Some dogs grow out of their puppy personalities, but Ryker grew into his... all 100 pounds of him. He's a goofball, a nose work champ, and was devoted to his older brother, who needed someone to keep him moving.

Bekki drove nearly three hours in stifling heat without air conditioning to be part of A Life Well Loved. When I tried to get his paw print, he howled like it was a personal attack. When Bekki tried, he howled before she even touched his foot. A master of drama!! And also, a very good boy.

Welcome to A Life Well Loved, Ryker. You've clearly earned this feature! 🐾

The book is nearly complete, and the cover contest supporting Dirty Paws Agape Haven is coming next month. Stay tuned for details on how to vote for your favorite. 💜

Ditto is a 9 year old golden retriever born right here in Tecumseh, and she has quite the full life. Emotional support animal for her mom, volunteer visitor at Cambrian Assisted Living, daily regular at Musgrove Coffee, and personal charmer of everyone at The Boulevard Market, where she has apparently figured out that cheese treats are always available... if you work the room correctly!

Ditto's mom Betsy calls her a once-in-a-lifetime dog. Having met her, that's absolutely true.

Welcome to A Life Well Loved, Ditto. Tecumseh is lucky to have you! 🐾

Fall sessions are now booking! If you've been thinking about portraits for your dog this season, now is a great time to get on the calendar. Reply to this post or visit my website to learn more.

Introducing Petra and Willow! These best friends at Dirty Paws Agape Haven reminded Megan of her best friend Tucker, so she sponsored them in his memory. 🌈

Petra is 6, a Pyrenees mix from Dayton, and she arrived at her session trotting around like she didn't have a care in the world. She's an ice cream enthusiast who tolerates everyone, but is strongly opposed to nail trims (who can blame her?).

Willow is 9, an English Cream Golden Retriever, and she spent most of her life in a cage as a breeder dog. She was surrendered when she was no longer profitable. At their session, she had to borrow a little bit of Petra's confidence to get started, but that's just what best friends do for each other!

These two will have a two-page feature in A Life Well Loved, because Megan chose to make sure their story is remembered. I'm heading out to DPAH this week to do the final sessions for the book, which means sponsorships are closing on Thursday.

If you've been thinking about it, this is your last chance. $95 sponsors a Dirty Paws resident's full feature. Link is on my website under the "Giving Back" tab. 💜

Stanley and Sophia drove from Cleveland with their mom Robyn, and if being trusted with another pet photographer's dogs wasn't enough to make me super nervous, Stanley is a spicy senior foster fail who had strong opinions about everything, and Sophia has no eyes, is mostly deaf, and was entirely focused on the cheese. 🧀

Stanley came into Robyn's life as a foster as he recovered from surgery, and she figured out the right medications for some health challenges. When he became available for adoption, he went on exactly one meet before Robyn realized she couldn't let him go. He repaid her by being occasionally spicy and consistently hilarious, which fit right in with her household.

Despite all of Robyn's warnings, Stanley warmed up to me immediately and proceeded to demonstrate that he understood exactly what being a model was all about! Meanwhile, Sophia demonstrated that cheese is more important than portraits. (Is she wrong?)

Robyn has said she's so grateful she did this session when she did, and I'm very grateful she trusted me with it. Welcome to A Life Well Loved, Stanley. It was a pleasure to know you. 💜 And Sophia - glad you decided to be his plus-one. 🐾

Dogust Feature: Libbey

Libbey does errands with her mom. And when strangers at stop lights tell her how pretty she is, she accepts the compliment.🚦She has a whole system for this!

Sweet, smart, best cuddler, and fully committed to protecting her people, she has figured out exactly how all of this is supposed to work. Her family knows it too.

Some dogs just fill every room they walk into. Libbey is one of those dogs.

She's one of 13 dogs featured in the 2026 Toledo Humane Society calendar - a project I love because it lets me celebrate rescue pets while creating meaningful artwork for families who want to hold onto these moments.

I'd like to introduce you to Magnolia.

She is a senior lady with the most adorable smile I have ever seen on a dog - teeth and all! Sweet, calm, and down for anything, she's one of those souls you meet and immediately wish more people could know.

Magnolia was found on the side of the road on Christmas Eve, and Dirty Paws was her Christmas miracle.

Simply put, that's what they do. The dogs that most need someone to say yes - Tom says yes. The Pappas family is doing the work that so many of us wish we could, and they're doing it every single day.

The best way I know to support that work is to make sure it's funded. Every sponsorship, every donation, and every person who shares this post keeps dogs like Magnolia safe.

If you'd like to sponsor a DPAH resident's two-page feature in A Life Well Loved, it's $95 and the link is on my website under "Giving Back."

Magnolia deserves to be celebrated, just like the family who made sure she survived so we could get to know her, too. 💜
