This portrait was juried into the 2026 Chelsea Art Alley, and it’s the one I get the most comments on, by far. So I decided it was time to let your dog have a turn!

Painted Light Sessions are short sessions in front of a metal backdrop that I paint with color using my flash, with 20 colors to choose from, all created in camera.

Ginger won the back cover of A Life Well Loved, and her family could not be more proud.

A Rhodesian Ridgeback/Retriever mix from Saline with a Mohawk and a personality her trainer once described as a goofy box of chocolates, Ginger earned her place the old fashioned way. Her people campaigned early, campaigned hard, and cheered every step of the way. 🎉

Congratulations to Dennis, Pamela, and their girl Ginger. Thank you for helping us raise so much for Dirty Paws Agape Haven! 💜

She ran away with it! LuLu rallied her troops, took an early lead and never looked back.

She received 1,135 votes to claim the cover of A Life Well Loved, and together this community raised $4,875 for the dogs at Dirty Paws Agape Haven.

LuLu came into Faythe’s life as the winning prize in a hospice fundraiser, completely unplanned but absolutely perfect. It seems fitting that she won another contest by a landslide.

Thank you to everyone who voted, bought a book, and showed up for these dogs. The book is coming together, and it is going to be something really special. 💜

Next Saturday, I’m bringing the mini-Wienermobile to Detroit Dachshund Club's Halloweenie Event at Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea Canton, and your dog is invited to take the wheel! 🌭

Portraits are $35, no appointment needed, from 12 noon to 2 PM. Come out, have some great coffee, and spend a few hours surrounded by dachshunds in costume - never a bad idea!

This is Tom, and that is Uno on the dashboard, riding through the property like he owns the place.

Tom founded Dirty Paws Agape Haven in 2020 on 19 acres in Ottawa Lake, MI. He networks with shelters across Michigan and Ohio to give senior dogs a permanent home for the rest of their lives. Dirty Paws is not a shelter and they do not adopt out. Their residents are Home.

Spending time on that property with Tom and these dogs was one of the most meaningful parts of this project. There is a story in this book about something he said to me that I think about often. You will have to purchase a copy and read it to find out what it was!

October’s Feature: Hanson

Hanson has a job: he's a tester dog at K9 Elite, which means when nervous new dogs arrive at daycare, Hanson is the one who makes it okay.

He was diagnosed with hip dysplasia at just 9 months old, had a total hip replacement, spent five months in recovery and physical therapy, and came out the other side dock diving and competing in FASTCAT. He is four years old and living his best life.

Some dogs just decide they're here to be good. Hanson decided.

He's featured in the 2026 Toledo Humane Society calendar: part of a project I'm honored to contribute to every year.

Teddy was on WTOL 11's Good Day Live this morning talking about A Life Well Loved, Dirty Paws Agape Haven , and some of the dogs you will find inside these pages. (I tagged along because he doesn’t have his license yet.)

If you missed it live, here is a snippet. I must have made an impression on Toledo because in the hours after the segment, we raised over $400.
