s. My amazing wife has made me quite the softy when it comes to love and supporting other’s that are in love. Believe me when I say, that my clients always tug on my heartstrings, because I know just how special and important your moments are (and my wife will hear all about it when I get home). When I am not taking, choosing, or editing pictures, I am on the couch watching a movie, ready to critic it to the best of my ability or I am at my computer playing the latest video game that I am obsessed with. If you share any ounce of those hobbies, we will get along swimmingly. This is the best job I have ever had the privilege of being a part of. I get to meet new people, capture the happiest moments in their lives, and have fun while I am doing it!

A First Look with the Dad, or any family members, is one of my favorite moments in the wedding day. This is the moment that always brings the waterworks. They get to see how much their little girl has grown up and the bride gets a special moment with the people who raised her.

I can only imagine how I will feel at my daughter’s first look 🥹

Want to keep things traditional and not see each other till the ceremony? That’s no problem! Instead of a first look, you could have a first touch with your partner.

First Touch’s are when you meet with your partner before the ceremony but in a location where you can’t see each other like on opposite sides of a door or around a corner of the building. This is a great way to uphold traditions but still being able to connect with your partner before the hustle and bustle of the wedding ceremony and reception. Whether you need a moment to decompress from the stress of the day with your fiancé or a chance to privately read vows to each other, first touch’s are a great addition to any wedding day.

As a wedding photographer, I always ask my clients what kind of photos they are wanting on their wedding day. Almost every time they are questioning whether to have a first look or not. While it is always up to your preference, I like to give these reasons why you SHOULD have a first look on your wedding day.

1. Privacy! Most men have trouble expressing emotions even if we are filled with them. With a first look, you have the privacy to express yourself without all the pressure of hundreds of guests looking back at you.

2. It opens up the wedding timeline! Everybody has heard of the cocktail hour after the ceremony. If pictures aren’t taken before the ceremony, whether family, bridal party, or couples portraits, then they are taken during the cocktail hour. This can be extremely stressful and tiring with so many pictures shoved into a 1 hour time slot and you just want to get to your reception and celebrate your marriage. With a first look, it opens the timeline to allow other photos like family photos and full bridal party portraits before the ceremony so you can get to your party faster.

3. More portraits! The first look is almost like a mini couples portraits session before the ceremony. Time can always be scheduled to take more portraits after the ceremony, like for sunset photos. This gives you more photos to line the walls of your home with.

It is always up to your preference whether you have a first look at your wedding or not. Some people would rather it be more traditional and that is completely ok. I thought it would be good to explain some of the pros to a first look to people who are still undecided.
