I heard today that Mother’s Day is the day where we're supposed to just focus on the positive parts of motherhood. But focusing only on the positive doesn't really encompass the beauty of motherhood.

Motherhood is being scratched, bitten, kicked, and bruised all because you had the audacity to take them to church. It's also being the recipient of multiple random hugs and kisses throughout the day.

Motherhood is being told that they like Daddy better than you. It's also being the one they always go to when they are upset, scared, and worried and need someone to comfort them.

Motherhood is being the one who always has to think about and plan everything. It's being overstimulated all of the time because your children seek regulation from your presence and your touch. It's being the one who always gets blamed if someone doesn't get their way.

Motherhood is also watching little humans grow into real people. Being the one they show the things they're proud of to. Teaching them kindness and patience even when you don't really have any. Kissing booboos. Middle of the night cuddles. Trips to the movies. Dance parties. Seeing pieces of your heart go out into the world and hoping they don't break.

I'm grateful for the positives, but I'm grateful for the hard parts too, because that's where the growth and connection happens. I'll forever be grateful for the three precious children who completed me. 💕
