MONSOON MONDAY!!!
I've been busy and the monsoon has been elusive in the west valley over the past week. So today's image is one from the past just to remind you that we are in monsoon season!
Also, I'd like to share an artwork display system I am using in my home and for my clients. The common complaint I hear is, "I don't have space in my home to display multiple images." This system, called Xpozer, allows you to easily and economically switch the artwork on display and store the unused artwork safely until you want to display it again. The frame is light, easy to hang, and reusable for the same size prints. I use it to rotate displays of various 24"x36" images. Your first order includes the frame and artwork you choose. Early this morning, a thunderous roar shook the house as lightning lit up the bedroom. 1:45am... should I?
Like a fireman responding to the bell, I pulled on my pants ('cause b-naked lightning chasing isn't my bag), gathered my gear, and began the chase.
Wonderful rain for a while, moderate wind, and lightning over the White Tanks. Here are three of my favorites from early this morning. I'll be posting these to my Fine Art America website later this week.

MONSOON MONDAY!!!
First, I hope that all of you who experienced the storm Sunday night are safe with no damage. That was quite the storm. I was chasing near Camelback and the 303 when my car was engulfed in blowing sand and debris... the strongest winds I have seen in years!
I managed to get onto the freeway... everyone driving 50 mph (except for that one golf cart!)... trying desperately to stay in our lanes. I spent some time on Olive near the White Tanks where I continued to be bounced around in tornado-sounding winds.
Light flashes (not lightning bolts) created a visual symphony that would have made Mozart blush... but no bolts!
My last ditch effort was parking in a cul-de-sac near Camping World facing the White Tanks. I set my camera up on the dashboard, and finally a couple of bolts poked their way through the sand-choked sky.
This is my favorite of the three I kept. windshield raindrops and all! I hope you enjoy these snippets of my adventures chasing God's thundering voice. If you do, thanks for sharing this post with friends and encouraging them to follow me!

Just a little bit of backyard chasing in the northwest Phoenix valley, looking west toward the White Tank Mountains. Lots of hidden activity in the rain and dust with the occasional bolt sparking its way to the ground. It was FUN until the dust and wind shut things down for the night. Thank You Lord God for the rain and the exciting show. Blessings to all my friends. Chasers stay safe!

THUNDER THURSDAY!
The chase continues but not much to chase in my neck of the desert. I need to find time to camp out in Tucson's thunder alley or the Mogollon Rim's rumble rift!
Today's featured images are less for the lightning and more for the tragic state of the saguaro cacti in the White Tank Mountains. Lack of water, consistent water, is the cause of the demise of hundreds if not thousands of these magnificent sentinels of the Sonoran Desert. Without water their structure weakens. When it does rain they soak up enormous amounts of water making their arms so heavy that they begin falling off! The change from 15 years ago when I began photographing the park is sad to see.
The park does a great job of maintaining the area, but there is very little they can do to make it rain more. Your prayers for these magnificent creations of God are welcome.

Monsoon Monday!
It remains pretty Nonsoony in the Phoenix west valley, so I thought I would share some images I took of the weather build-up that precedes a monsoon storm. The clouds are fascinating to watch as they start from almost nothing and build to monster formations that light up and throw bolts of electricity at each other.
These images were taken with an infrared-converted camera. The result is blue skies that turn midnight black, clouds that glow, and live foliage that looks other-worldly. I hope you enjoy these as you await the next monsoon storm!

Thunder Thursday!
Thanks to everyone who commented on the image comparison a couple of days ago. Blue was the overwhelming winner from your comments. But sometimes nature gives you a natural color that probably shouldn't be manipulated too much. This image is a case in point. Lightning captured at the front of an approaching haboob (dust storm) lit up the desert sand that was following it. Manipulating the white balance and turning it to blue makes a nice image, but the impact of the approaching storm is lost. What do you think?

Monsoon Monday!
"Electric Popcorn Popper" is a vision I've been chasing for years. The fields surrounding my home used to grow acres and acres of corn this time of year. I've waited patiently for a lightning storm to ignite the whole field and send popcorn throughout the neighborhood.

Alas, the storms never quite materialize in the right place, and now mega-warehouses hide the beauty of the forgotten cornfields.

This image is a composite of two original images when combined, capture my elusive vision. The cornfield was photographed with an IR-converted camera. The lightning is from a storm several years ago. When nature doesn't cooperate, creativity kicks in.
