Since moving to Sunset Beach, NC, I have been learning about the wildlife and flora of this unique part of coastal Carolina through the view from my camera lens. Terns are nesting on the sand above high tide on the east end of the island. Please don’t walk through or let dogs run loose in there. You’ll get dive bombed If you do… Look at this least tern parent watching over its sweet baby. ❤️

I saw this handsome guy roosting on the side of the canal last week. At first I was wondering if he was sick and watched to see if he would move. Someone came out on the dock next door, though, and off he flew. I guess he was just enjoying an afternoon siesta. ❤️ Isn’t he stunning?

Guess who else noticed this gorgeous pelican’s perfect dive for a fish? There’s always someone wanting a share of the catch. 😄 Note how the pelican turns his head and neck when he hits the water to protect his throat.

I was taking photos of ducks the other day when, all of a sudden, this anhinga surfaced right in front of me. He had a small fish speared with his very sharp bill. Problem easily solved by tossing the fish up in the air and into his mouth for a quick gulp. 😄

Here’s a closer view of our new little bundle of joy. I think I’ll name him “Oscar” the osprey - (to be changed if he turns out to be a girl).. 😄. No worries about my getting too close to the nest. I was at quite a distance with my camera and telephoto lens. For once, my photo of something that tiny from that distance wasn’t a blur. 😊

Awwww! For the first time I saw the ospreys’ new little sweet baby. Papa brought half a fish to the nest (he keeps the other half for himself) and mama tore off teensy little pieces for baby(s). It appeared she might have been feeding two chicks, although I could only see the one. Poor mama is most likely really hot in this weather, but she spreads her wings like an umbrella to keep babies cool. Stay safe and grow big, little ones! ❤️
