I’ve been thinking a lot about something that’s been talked about quite a bit in the photography world lately AI, sharing children’s photos online, and where we draw the line as photographers.
I know this is a really personal decision, and I completely understand why some photographers and parents have decided to stop sharing photos of children publicly. I don’t think there’s one right answer for everyone.
For me personally, I’m choosing to continue sharing the beautiful moments I’m trusted to capture.
A huge part of my business is being able to show people the kind of work I create. When you’re looking for a photographer, you want to see actual families, actual sessions, and actual moments-not just a bunch of pretty pictures with no story behind them. That’s how people find me, and that’s how I’ve built my business.
But that will never come before my clients comfort.
If you book with me and you don’t want your child’s photos posted, please tell me. You don’t owe me an explanation whatsoever. I will never be offended, and I will never try to change your mind.
Maybe you’re okay with me sharing certain photos but would rather I avoid showing your child’s face. That’s completely okay too. We can figure out what you’re comfortable with.
And if I’ve photographed your family before and you’ve changed your mind about something I’ve previously shared, please reach out. I would much rather you tell me than sit with that discomfort.
I know AI has changed the way we have to think about sharing our work, especially when children are involved. I don’t take those concerns lightly. But I also don’t want fear surrounding new technology to take away from something I genuinely love doing, documenting childhood and family memories exactly as they are.
I’m not going to pretend I have the perfect answer for something that is constantly changing. I can only make the decision that feels right for me, my business, and the families who trust me with their memories.
