Good day everyone, as a concerned citizen of Earth I must insist that you all watch this eye-opening new documentary called Chasing Coral (from the creators of Chasing Ice) about the unprecedented dying off of coral reefs all around the world. It is an amazing and sobering film that sheds light on a subject that has been out of sight and out of mind for far too long but that will negatively impact millions of people around the globe as it threatens the collapse of entire ocean ecosystems. And it is going on NOW!! This film actually shows it happening for the first time ever with some amazing time-lapse photography. It is available on Netflix, please watch, share, and take action!! www.chasingcoral.com

Partial eclipses are cool and all, but totality is where it's at!! Taken from ground zero for the path of totality in Madras, OR. If you look closely at the second picture you can see solar prominences shooting out from the sun from behind the moon.

Mt. Hood reflected in the still water at Burnt Lake in Mt. Hood National Forest, Oregon. This was taken from the same vantage point as the other Mt. Hood reflection picture I posted but with a much better camera. I can't wait until smartphones can take images of this quality!

Here is an iPhone shot of Mt. Hood reflected in a lake where my brother and I camped last week. I just got back from a two week road trip to Oregon and Washington to check out Portland and do some camping. I plan to move to Portland a little later this year! More pics from my good camera coming soon!

If anybody is interested I have a beautiful 20x30 canvas wrapped print of this image on sale for $275 and I'll ship it to you for free! Send me a message if you are interested.

Here is a view from our ship as we slowly traversed through the pack ice toward the Antarctic Circle. Our guide woke us in the middle of the night so we could all go outside (where it was still light out) and celebrate the moment we crossed over the Antarctic Circle with some warm adult beverages, which were much appreciated as it was very cold and snowing outside!!

Some more Antarctic glacier images, in the first one you can see the long slow journey that glaciers take from the mountains down to the sea before calving into icebergs. In the second image there's a small boat full of people that gives a sense of scale showing how absolutely massive these glaciers are. The boat is about 200 meters away and still it is dwarfed by the face of the glacier.

Where the glacier meets the ground. Here we see the bottom layers of a glacier which formed from snow that fell hundreds or even thousands of years ago and got compacted into ice. This is actually supposed to be a rare sight because usually Antarctic glaciers extend past the shoreline and float on top of the sea. Due to rising global temperatures the glaciers are melting faster so they aren't able to extend over the water as much before either melting or calving into icebergs.

Chinstrap penguins drying off in the sun in one of the few places in Antarctica not covered by ice, more than 98% of the continent is covered by a layer of ice that averages 1 mile thick.
