On this day 20 (!) years ago, Joe Paterno and Penn State took 3 overtimes and 4 hours to defeat Bobby Bowden's Florida State 26-23 in the Orange Bowl. The win capped an 11-1 season and #3 final ranking for the Nittany Lions.

Kevin Kelly was an 18-year-old freshman who missed two field goals early in the game before hitting the 29-yard game winner. As former PSU kicker - I can tell you it can be the loneliest position in sports at times, but you also have the chance to be a hero for the ages - like Kevin.

Did you know January 2nd is one of the most important dates in Penn State football history?

In 1987, #2 Penn State upset #1 Miami in the Fiesta Bowl to win the Lions' second national championship. It was dubbed the "Game of the Century" still stands as the greatest win in program history.

In 1995, the Nittany Lions knocked off Oregon 38-20 in the Rose Bowl to cap an undefeated season and secure what should have been another national title.

In 2017, Saquon Barkley electrified Pasadena in one of the most memorable performances in Rose Bowl history despite a narrow PSU loss to USC.

I was lucky enough to attend both of those Rose Bowls - here's how I saw it.

Penn State is heading back to Yankee Stadium take on Clemson in the Pinstripe Bowl Dec. 27th! This was my view at the 2014 Pinstripe Bowl when PSU knocked off Boston College 31-30 in overtime.

Lets hope our Lions can wrap up what has been a challenging season on a positive note with a 4th straight win to welcome new coach Matt Campbell.
